The photographs taken by our talented volunteer photographers, Shirley and Renee, not only provide us with a lovely reminder of our events held at ANZAC Cottage, amid images of the generous people who participate in these events, but also capture gems like this.

To me, they symbolise the warmth, beauty and love that this cottage has shared for over a century.

Thank you, Shirley and Renee.

Vale Neale Daniher.

One thing is certain: If we had a few more Meale Danihers, the world would be a better place.

“even though it’s a big ask, we need to choose acceptance and forgiveness because it frees us to move forward; if we don’t , we run the risk of staying trapped in the past. We become the victim of circumstances, clinging to our entitlement to feel aggrieved.”

Back in the day, Friday meant fish cakes. Wouldn't mind a feed of my Mum's version of these tasty delights tonight.

Just by the by, looking at the results of a search for a photo of these very traditional staples, I think Mum may have been astonished at the different variations of her recipe as the multicultural contributions came to the fore.

Yum!

The tradition of volunteering is strong at ANZAC Cottage. The building of this historic icon in 1916 was initiated by volunteers, implemented by volunteers, and it is a tribute to those citizens from so long ago that the Cottage still stands.

And today, the volunteers of the Friends of ANZAC Cottage and their friends and followers continue to celebrate this wonderful story and to share the warmth, kindness, and joy that selfless service brings.

Below are just some of our great friends and workers, people who lend their time, skills, talents, and passion to keep the story alive.

Happy Volunteer Week, and thank you.

With yesterday being International Museum Day, my thoughts turned to the thousands of "museums" developed in suburbia, such as Marjorie's museum wall, as shown below. Precious memories that coloured lives and comforted.

The ANZAC Cottage cross stitch made by daughter-in-law, Adele and the ANZAC Cottage print provided by granddaughter, Renee, with the family connection making these items even more special.

So loving this beautiful weather, and it was just perfect to spend the morning at Woodman Point Quarantine Station with the fabulous Jenni, giving a fascinating insight into this place that has played a major role in our military and medical history.

A yummy morning tea and then off for a leisurely walk around the complex with Chris telling us how those buildings were used to process those who arrived with a contagious illness, our immigrants and the people who have passed through Woodman Point.

Thank you for a warm welcome and for the opportunity to see the result of the Friends of Woodman Quarantine Station's hard work and passion. Love your work.

What a fabulous day for a tour of the old Woodman Point Quarantine Station.
Thank you to everyone who came with us and explored this hidden gem.
It was lovely to catch up with Anne from Friends of ANZAC cottage inc today too.

From France comes this lovely poem, sent to us by our mate, Philippe. The words reveal the respect and admiration the fighting men had for the nurses who cared for them and their fellow soldiers.

Note: A quick scan of Trove reveals that "Flannel Flower Day", celebrated on November 1, was a Queensland day of tribute to war nurses. There are moves afoot to reintroduce the day Australia -wide:

"🌺 Introducing Flannel Flower Day.

We're now working with the Federal Government to establish June 21 as National Flannel Flower Day, a day of remembrance, mental health awareness, and solidarity for Australia's veteran community.

It's the beginning of a national moment, a chance for every Australian to honour the 1,600+ veterans we've lost to su***de since 1997 and to stand beside the survivors they left behind."Credit: https://www.theflannelproject.com/news-2

Today, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage would like to pay tribute to the nurses who, over time, have provided not only medical support but also emotional and mental support to their patients in sometimes the most horrific conditions.

Many of those who served during wartime finished their service with physical injuries from their service and, like so many of their patients, with mental health issues and memories carried throughout their lives.

Thank you.
