Designed before the Oca store foundation, the Mocho stool is undoubtedly one of Sergio Rodrigues masterpieces.

As a free interpretation of a typical rural artifact, the cow-milking stool, the Mocho stool synthesizes both functions' simplicity: a piece that could work as a seat and support for objects. It is a low piece on which the user has to crouch to sit, aided by a handle that allows it to be moved anywhere.

The year was 1954, and Rodrigues sought a skilled lathe-operating carpenter and showed him the stool design. Right there, they produced the very first piece. It has been a success since then, arousing great interest from the public and other furniture manufacturers.

Produced in the 1960s by Celina Decorações, this desk has a simple yet functional structure that reflects the early stages of industrialization in Brazilian furniture design. Wide rosewood boards, alternating between solid and veneered plywood, bring the wood grain to the center of the design, while two supporting legs, a large top, and two drawers define its construction.

Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1938, Celina Decorações became an important name in Brazilian modernist furniture, combining industrial production with artisanal craftsmanship.

Produced in São Paulo in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the chairs were initially misattributed as prototypes of Martin Eisler’s Costela Chair, designed in 1953. Our research later identified them as a Pailar design, created afterward and likely influenced by Eisler’s work.

Made from solid Gonçalo Alves wood, recognizable for its golden to reddish tones and pronounced grain, the pieces arrived requiring extensive restoration. At , our team addressed structural issues and broken joints while preserving the original construction and material wherever possible.

The upholstery was entirely renewed with handwoven Bossa Fabrics in Pine color, introducing a new material layer while maintaining the character of the original design.

Two restorations, two different approaches to preserving Brazilian design.

For this set of 1950s Dining Chairs by Joaquim Tenreiro, the work at followed the original proposal closely. The solid rosewood structures were restored and the cane seats renewed, preserving the lightness, proportions, and material language that define this design.

The pair of 1960s Casulo Armchairs called for a different response. Their original form and solid rosewood structures were carefully restored, while new upholstery from Bossa Fabrics introduces another layer to the pieces, giving them a distinct presence without altering the logic of the original design.

Restoration is never a single method. Each piece asks for its own decisions, guided by material, history, and what remains.

Two interpretations of the same 1960s armchair by Móveis Cimo.

Produced by one of the companies that shaped Brazilian furniture industrialization, the model combines independent solid rosewood bases with upholstered seats and backrests.

At , both examples were carefully restored and reupholstered in 100% organic silk from Bossa Fabrics. One features a bespoke striped pattern, while the other takes on a quieter, monochromatic character.

Here, the textile does more than complete the restoration. It changes the rhythm and presence of the piece, making each armchair singular while preserving the identity of the original design.

Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and Anna Maria Niemeyer in 1978 and produced by Tepperman, the Rio Chaise Lounge is made of black-lacquered molded plywood, cane, and leather. Its continuous curved form functions as both structure and base, while the cane seating surface and cylindrical neck cushion complete the composition.

The piece reflects the curved forms that characterized Oscar Niemeyer’s architectural practice and their translation into furniture developed in collaboration with Anna Maria Niemeyer.

The Rio Chaise Lounge was presented in The Collector’s Essentials, Bossa’s 2024 exhibition exploring the historical significance and provenance of selected works of Brazilian design.

Joaquim Tenreiro understood furniture as part of a broader idea of modern living, where furniture, art, and everyday objects coexisted within the same environment.

Designed in the 1960s, this bookshelf is made of solid Peroba do campo wood and veneers. Measuring four meters wide, its composition brings together open shelves and enclosed storage, reflecting Tenreiro’s use of Brazilian woods in furniture conceived as part of complete interiors.

The piece was presented in Joaquim Tenreiro: Inventing a Modern Tropical Living, Bossa’s 2025 exhibition dedicated to the designer’s furniture, interiors, and cultural vision. The publication created for the exhibition brings together archival material, restored works, and research that expands the understanding of his practice.

In his designs, Percival Lafer sought ergonomics and comfort through innovative construction. The MP-97 Lounge Chair combines a solid Brazilian jatobá structure with a single loose foam cushion, reflecting the technical and formal solutions that defined Móveis Lafer’s production.

Designed by Joaquim Tenreiro in 1965, the Bloch Desk was created to furnish the headquarters of Bloch Editores S.A., one of Brazil’s most important publishing houses.

Known as Edifício Manchete, the building was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, with interiors furnished by Sergio Rodrigues and Joaquim Tenreiro. Made of rosewood, the desk features three drawers aligned beneath its top and reflects Tenreiro attention to proportional, function, and material.

At , the piece underwent a careful restoration. Our experienced team worked across its wooden structure, surfaces, and construction details, maintaining as much original material as possible while addressing the natural marks of time and use.

By combining artisanal processes, an appreciation for manual work, and technology, we seek to preserve not only the furniture itself, but also the history carried through its materials.
