🌊 Spotted on : A 1961 Masterwork by Eegyvudluk Ragee

Did you see the feature on 'Water Baby and Sea Dog'? This rare 1961 stonecut is a cornerstone of the early Kinngait (Cape Dorset) graphic movement, and we are honored to have Limited Edition #30/50 currently available at DaVic Gallery.

Eegyvudluk Ragee (1920-1983) was a master of capturing the 'mutability' of forms. In this piece, we dive deep into a playful (or perhaps territorial) encounter between two mythical aquatic figures:

• The Sea Dog: A powerful body of a seal capped with the alert, sharp-toothed head of a dog.
• The Water Baby: A young seal pup bearing the soft, expressive face of a boy.

Are they playing in the depths, or is this a shamanic struggle between spirits? That ambiguity is exactly what makes Ragee’s early work so collectible and enduring.

✨ Available Now: This specific print ( #30/50) has been professionally preserved and is ready for a cornerstone place in a serious collection.

Bold. Primal. Salish. 🐺

In ‘Elemental Wolf,’ Maynard Johnny Jr. captures the profound intelligence and instinct of the wolf through a stunningly modern lens. The interplay of the Coast Salish circular motifs creates a sense of perpetual motion—a spirit that is both ancient and entirely of the now.

The vibrant contrast and clean geometric precision make this more than just a print; it is a focal point for any collection that values the strength of Northwest Coast lineage.

The Elder Kinsman: Beyond the Myth. 🐻

While nature tells us that the male bear is a solitary wanderer, the Coast Salish tradition reveals a deeper story. In ‘Papa Bear,’ Maynard Johnny Jr. captures the spirit of the Sentinel—the "Elder Kinsman" who embodies the quiet, independent strength of a high-ranking protector.

Maynard’s signature Coastal Modern style uses elongated lines and a vibrant, contemporary palette to bridge the gap between ancient legend and modern life. The "Papa Bear" is not just a parent; he is a symbol of Vitality, Leadership, and Ancestral Power. He is a teacher of resilience, standing firm in his own medicine.

This 2024 serigraph is a striking addition for collectors who value both the technical precision of Salish formline and the profound storytelling of the Northwest Coast.

The Guardian’s Breath: ‘Life Giver’ by Maynard Johnny Jr.

In Coast Salish tradition, the Wolf is a symbol of profound loyalty and the strength of the family unit. To call this design ‘Life Giver’ is to acknowledge the Wolf’s role as a provider—a hunter who ensures the survival of the pack and a spiritual guide who protects the lineage.

Maynard Johnny Jr. captures this vitality through a 2022 composition that vibrates with energy. Notice how the primary reds and yellows flow through the formline; it represents the "life force" or breath moving through the creature.

At 22 x 9 inches, this signed limited edition is a striking Coastal Modern tribute to one of the most respected spirits of the Northwest Coast. It is a powerful anchor for any collection that values both ancient legend and contemporary ex*****on.

The Convergence of Earth and Sky 🦅🐟

'Eagle’s Catch' (2023) by Maynard Johnny Jr. is a masterclass in contemporary Ex*****on. This serigraph utilizes vibrant primary reds and contrasting cool teals to 'sculpt' the moment of impact between the Eagle and the Salmon.

Notice the Sacred Alignment of the composition: the sweeping, rhythmic lines of the Eagle’s wing serve as an architectural anchor for the entire piece, while the Salmon’s fluid form provides a 'Clean Break' from the static background. Maynard’s ability to modernize traditional motifs while maintaining the ancestral heartbeat makes this a 'Level' acquisition for any serious collector of Indigenous art.

A rare opportunity to own a 2023 original serigraph from one of the most influential voices in Coast Salish design.

The "Deep Carving" of a Legend. 🏛️✨

Created in 1997—the final year of Bill Reid’s life—the ‘Haida Beaver Pole’ is more than an etching; it is a monumental reflection on Haida lineage and the persistence of the spirit.

Look closely at the rhythmic strength of the Ttsaang (Beaver). Through the velvet-rich textures of intaglio, Reid captures the weathered soul of ancient cedar poles, bridging the 19th-century monumental tradition with 20th-century mastery. 🪵🦫

A foundation-tier acquisition for the serious collector. Signed, numbered, and dated 1997.

In the deep waters of Haida mythology, the Killer Whale is the "Lord of the Ocean"—a sovereign being of immense power and community.

Robert Davidson’s 2004 masterpiece, created during his pivotal Abstract Edge era, strips the tradition down to its rawest, most energetic form. The bold interplay of red and black doesn't just depict a silhouette; it captures the sheer physical force of a spirit slicing through the Pacific.

In a modern interior, this work acts as a commanding focal point, bridging the gap between ancient lineage and the cutting edge of contemporary abstraction.

In Haida culture, the salmon are more than a resource—they are a "people" who honor us with their return each year.

Robert Davidson’s 1983 masterpiece is a tribute to this cycle of resilience and the promise of renewal. The fluid formline captures the relentless energy of the journey home, making it a powerful piece for any space that celebrates life and continuity.

In a modern home, this design brings a sense of rhythmic calm and deep connection to the Pacific Northwest landscape.

"I thought it was about time for the viewer to do some of their own thinking..." — Robert Davidson
When Robert Davidson created In the Eye of the Beholder in 1993, he wanted to give the power back to the collector. Instead of providing a traditional legend, he created a visual space for you to define.
Notice the "ghost forms" and the precision of the formline. In the "clean break" aesthetic of a modern home, this piece serves as a focal point that changes every time you look at it. No explanation required—just pure visual impact.

“All I remember is when I did that, I did the red first and then I did the overlay, and i said, “Ah, I goofed.” But I carried on doing it anyway, because I felt really sick about it, having put so much work into it and it didn’t work. But after I set it aside for a few days, i got excited about it. I had no idea what i would do. All I knew was that I waned to do a double negative. This came from my prints, the overlay, and this came from other paintings where I did some ghosting, so the title is Double Negative, because they’re both negatives." – Robert Davidson, interview with Ian Thom. November 1992.
