Two Rivers Gallery

Two Rivers Gallery Two Rivers Gallery is a vital centre for visual art in Northern BC dedicated to lifelong learning through the arts.

We believe in vigorous artistic and cultural expression and offer diverse experiences for participation through our exhibitions & programs. Two Rivers Gallery proudly sits on the traditional, unceded territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. Operated by the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association, the Gallery serves the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, which includes the traditional territo

ries of the McLeod Lake Indian Band, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and Simpcw First Nation. The regional district consists of approximately 100,000 people across seven electoral areas and four municipalities, including Prince George with a population of 79,000. Two Rivers Gallery is contracted to provide services to the entire regional district and each year we travel with outreach programs and an exhibition to the District of Mackenzie (two hours to the north), the Village of Valemount (three hours to the east) and the Village of McBride (two hours to the east). The geographical area we serve is 51,083 ㎢ which is just shy of that of Nova Scotia. The name Two Rivers Gallery derives from the confluence of the two main waterways in the region, the Nechako and Fraser Rivers. Two Rivers Gallery is located within the city of Prince George, in Central British Columbia, nine hours north of Vancouver. Prince George, once considered a logging town, is a service centre for the northern half of the province. The next nearest public art gallery of comparable size and scope is five and a half hours away by car, and as a result Two Rivers Gallery is the main venue for experiencing contemporary art for the regional community.

Artist Cat Sivertsen will be our artist-in-residence for CAD: Pollinators at WALK PG on May 30th from 9:30am to 3:30pm.

Cat will be creating a collaborative installation using willow and h**p. She will be engaging folks in discussion about sustainability through the arts, focussing on thoughtful material use. Cat’s installation will encourage folks to explore Cottonwood Island Nature Park and emulate the rhythms and shapes they observe in the forest, considering where the willow grows and inviting curiosity and reflection about the park.

Summer Camp Guest Artists! 🌞✨

Over the next few weeks, we wanted to introduce you to each of the special guest artists that will be teaching their unique artistic style at each camp. A new artist for every week!

Week 4, Summer Creativity Camp: On The Stage! —we’re excited to announce Melissa Glover as our guest artist as we break into the theatre arts! Play with improv, create your own set, and think about all the artmaking that goes into bringing stories to life! Let’s break a leg and get to it!

Melissa was born and raised in Prince George. She began acting at the age of 4 after being bitten by the theatre bug when she played a baby spider in ‘Charlotte’s Web.’ She also participated in local speech and drama festivals, and local and regional music and dance festivals. Melissa moved to Calgary after high school to further her professional development in the theatre performance program at Mount Royal University. After working as an actor, Melissa decided to shift her focus to directing. She took over Deborah McGladdery’s ‘Bard in the Yard’ summer program in 2013 when she started her own acting studio, Shooting Stars Theatre. This program has allowed Melissa to flex her directing muscles whilst tackling Shakespeare and kids! In 2014, Melissa assistant directed her first play at Theatre NorthWest. Since then, she has worked on several productions and has learnt so much and has begun to find her own directing style. In the fall of 2019, Melissa was invited to attend the Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and work as an assistant director on the presentation series. Melissa has also directed some stage readings at Theatre NorthWest and is looking forward to beginning other programs to enrich local talent. She is interested in furthering her professional development and is very excited about the future of Theatre NorthWest.

Celebrating Indigenous Arts 🌞✨

Over the next few weeks, we wanted to introduce you to each of the special guest artists that will be teaching their unique artistic style at each of our summer camps. A new artist for every week!

Week 2, Summer Creativity Camp: Celebrating Indigenous Arts—join our Indigenous Programmer Crystal Behn to explore and celebrate Indigenous art!

Explore and celebrate the multitude of ways that Indigenous artists continue to influence and shape our creative world. Activities revolve around the four elements, the medicine wheel and the seven sacred teachings. Want to see the power of the sun by making prints with tumeric? How about make your own animal totem pendant from perler beads and learn about the Indigenous artist that inspired it? Want to taste salmon while reading about dipnetting? Have you ever wanting to learn Northwest Coast formline carving? Learn how fire can be created from your breath and acrylic paint. This camp is jam packed (with bannock!) about Indigenous way of knowledge and art. Everyone welcome!

Please join us for the reveal of “And Last Wild Thing, Find Your Way Homeward,” a striking and meaningful new art banner installation transforming the fence line along a vacant lot in the heart of downtown.

Located between H&R Block and Ignite Night Club at 1260 3rd Avenue, the installation brings colour, storytelling, and a sense of place to a previously under utilized space, adding beautification to Prince George’s downtown core.

This project was created in collaboration with the Prince George and District Community Arts Council, Two Rivers Gallery, and the Downtown Prince George Business Improvement Association, and was supported through a City of Prince George MyPG Grant.

The unveiling event will include remarks from the artist, offering insight into the inspiration, meaning, and creative process behind the work.
