Good morning! Here is Laurie Leehane’s lovely streetscape, “Sunday Morning”.

Laurie Leehane studied fine art at St. Lawrence College in Kingston and at York University in Toronto, and commercial art at the College of Trades and Technology. Her cityscapes and landscapes focus on architectural and built structures, and offer a heightened sense of light and colour. Her work is in the collections of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and the City of St. John’s, as well as many private collections.

We’re open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

This beautiful painting is from Carol Bajen-Gahm’s “Cape Spear Battery” series.

“Places engulf me,” writes Carol. “I see them through time, from many scales and vantage points: the land, the buildings, the weather, the artifacts, the people, the history, the soil; the sounds and smells. I take them all in. I collect ideas, images, memories, photographs, and artifacts and start to build a painting.”

We’re open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

From Boyd Chubbs’ current online exhibition “Gifts Never Lost or Traded”, here is “‘Spiritus Mundi’ in a Tidal Dream”.

You can view Boyd’s exhibition on our website now: christinaparkergallery.com

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue essay by poet and essayist Peter Sanger. Here is an excerpt:

“Enigmatic, seemingly anachronistic, anomalous images frequently occur in Chubbs’ drawings. About three-quarters of the works in his new exhibition contain such images. They both surpass and sustain. They surpass by implying their origin is otherwhere than in the artist’s skill and knowledge or in the viewer’s experience of ordinary possibilities. The images sustain by evidencing that attention, patience, justice, love and beauty exist and are active. For some of us, such images move to tears. For others, they connote nothing or are self-deluding obscurities. Chubbs has always chosen the more difficult way of the two, the way of affirming the images.”

You can read the rest of Peter’s essay on our website. The gallery is open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

We have two incredible new James Miller paintings in the gallery!

“And the Light Shines Through” and the “In the Glimmering Light of the Morning Mist” have just arrived from the artist’s studio.

“These seascapes emerge from time spent where the land meets the seas of the North Atlantic,” writes James. “The waves bring with them the elements of: light; shadow; line; colour; space; form; shape and pattern. These fundamental elements inspire my artistic vision within all of my work.”

Christina Parker Gallery is open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Here is Ned Pratt’s gorgeous photograph “Spring Run Off” – newly on view in the gallery along with a selection of recent work by the artist.

“I think this is a fairly painterly image,” writes Ned, “especially in the textures and colours of the flat water. I like the transition of levels of motion – from calmness to orderly motion to chaos.”

Christina Parker Gallery is open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

The exhibition opens with an artist reception this Friday, May 16 from 6–8pm, and will continue until June 7. Music at the opening reception will be provided by Boyd Chubbs.

Clifford George’s new paintings of St. John’s are infused with affection for his favourite neighborhoods, including Long’s Hill, Pennywell Road, Colonial Street and Quidi Vidi. He revisits these familiar places with fond enthusiasm, bringing the streets and architecture to life with his colourful palette and playful slant on things. In this heartfelt new exhibition, he also looks with fresh eyes to the outports and coastlines of the province which he knows so well, especially the Bonavista Peninsula, Change Islands, Fogo Island and surrounding communities.

This beautiful painting titled “Bryant’s Cove” is from Clifford George’s upcoming exhibition “City Streets and Along the Shore”, opening next week!

The exhibition will open with an artist reception on Friday, May 16 from 6–8pm, and will continue until June 7. Music at the opening reception will be provided by Boyd Chubbs.

Clifford George lives and works in Whiteway, Trinity Bay. He has actively painted and exhibited since 1970. Clifford continued his art education by doing private study and workshops with some of the most important artists in Newfoundland like Gerald Squires, Frank LaPointe and Don Wright. Later, his drawing ability led him to a job as a medical artist at the Health Science Centres associated with Memorial University, where his drawings were published in many international medical journals. The paintings of Clifford George are in both public and private collections around the world.

Here is Ron Bolt’s exquisite painting “Transcendent Night, Conception Bay”. We have several recent paintings by Ron Bolt on view at the moment.

Ron Bolt (RCA) has a career spanning over 60 years. As a painter and printmaker, he has held over 75 solo exhibitions in public and commercial galleries in Canada and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in the United States, Mexico, England, Japan and China. His commissions include government murals, several books and numerous corporate and private installations. His paintings, prints and limited edition books are in the collections of museums, public galleries and major libraries in Canada and abroad.

Ron Bolt was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1986, and served as its 27th President from 2000 to 2002. He was awarded the Canada 125 Medal in 1992, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2003 and the RCA’s Centennial Medallion in 2005.

Bolt’s love of Newfoundland and Labrador began in the summer of 1971 when he spent 3 weeks in Hibb’s Cove working with the Outport Arts Foundation teaching art to children. Since then he has returned to the province many times, including as artist in residence at Gros Morne National Park and as a participant in the Visiting Artists Program at St. Michael’s Printshop.

The gallery is open from 11am – 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
