MNBC’s Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Language and the Amelia Douglas Institute are excited to host a virtual embroidery workshop as part of the Métis Culture Talks series.
What to know about this workshop:
• Métis artist and Elder Jo-Ina Young will be leading a three-part virtual scissor pocket workshop.
• Participants will learn about the history of Métis embroidery while creating their own embroidered watch pocket.
• This workshop is not intended participants who have no prior needlework experience. This is a level 2 heritage arts workshop. What does that mean? Visit the MNBC Culture, Heritage and Language page for more details.
• Some prior experience with Métis needlework is required, as participants will be building on fundamental techniques to further develop skills in hand sewing, finishing, and floral composition.
Workshop dates are:
• Tuesday, September 15 from 5:30–7:30 pm PT
• Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30–7:30 pm PT
• Tuesday, September 29 from 5:30–7:30 pm PT
Space will be limited to 20 participants, and we ask that you please only register if you can attend all three sessions.
There will be a $20 registration fee. A limited number of subsidized tickets are available for those for whom the fee is a barrier. To request a subsidized ticket, please email [email protected]. Subsidized tickets are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
This workshop is open to Métis in BC only.
