Today we’re sharing Onyx – the title work of Jonathan Esperester’s exhibition and one of the clearest examples of what makes his practice so distinctive.
Painted on chiffon, the piece plays with transparency and depth in a way that traditional canvas simply can’t.
You can see it especially in the small stone at the bottom, where the material allows the image to open up and shift with the light. It’s a subtle but powerful effect that gives the work its particular atmosphere.
