Fragments of New York.
In this overpainted historical postcard, Peer Kriesel transforms the iconic Temple Emanu-El on Fifth Avenue into a surreal collision of memory, architecture and fragmented identity.

Between urban history and imagined machinery, the work oscillates between past and future — turning an archival image into a layered contemporary narrative.

From Alex Katz’s iconic Olivia to Patrik Grijalvo’s fragmented view of the MAXXI Museum — two artistic positions connected through one essential medium: paper.

Spanning generations, the current exhibition traces how paper transforms from a surface for drawing into a space for memory, construction, and perception. While Katz reduces portraiture to striking clarity and presence, Grijalvo deconstructs architecture into layered image spaces suspended between reality and imagination.

Paper becomes both carrier and catalyst — bridging classical modernism and contemporary conceptual practice.

Sam Francis is considered one of the leading figures of Abstract Expressionism and developed a distinctive visual language in which color itself becomes the primary vehicle of energy and movement. His works are characterized by dynamic compositions, spontaneous gestures, and a finely balanced relationship between form and emptiness — shaped equally by American painting and Japanese aesthetics.

A selection of ink paintings by Gregor Kalus - currently on view at our booth 54 Berlin. The paper art fair takes place in the historic Tempelhof Airport and runs until Sunday May 3.

At first glance, the works of Hamburg-based artist Gregor Kalus (*1980) appear almost photographic—quiet black-and-white compositions reminiscent of early photography. On closer inspection, however, lines dissolve, contours recede, and the viewer is drawn into a process of completion: absences are imagined, identities intuited, relationships presumed. What emerges is a deliberately fragile search for proximity and connection that ultimately resists any definitive resolution.
