We are marking the closing of the exhibition “Sednaya Prison: The Architecture of Repression and Death in Syria” in Berlin with a public discussion around a central question: How do we document the crimes of dictatorship, and how can testimonies, records, and evidence become part of a future process of justice?
The discussion brings together Marcus Hicken, Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the German Embassy in Damascus; Anwar al-Bunni, Syrian lawyer and human rights advocate; and Marianne Birthler, former Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Records.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Ilyas Saliba, with opening remarks by André Kockisch, Deputy Director of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, and Amer Matar, Director of the Prisons Museum.
