Geranium · 130 × 130 cm · oil on canvas · 2026

The name comes from the Greek *géranos*, crane — Linnaeus saw the long, beak-like seed pod and the name stayed, even after the reason for it was mostly forgotten. This painting started with the same kind of pull: a colour before a reason for it.

Oil on canvas, built up in layers with overwide brushes, then worked back with the palette knife so the earlier sediment shows through in places. The technique matters because the result can only come from it: soft, swept passages next to abrupt, scraped openings where the paint underneath suddenly surfaces.

No voiceover, no commentary — the painting decides with me.

Available directly from the studio.

New work from the studio in Oviedo.

"Quintana" takes its name from a word deeply rooted in Asturian history: the open land in front of a farmhouse — the social heart of a village. But there's a darker layer to the etymology. The tenant who worked that land was once required to give the fifth part of every harvest to the landowner. One-fifth. Every season. A debt written into the name of the place itself.

That tension between what is given and what is kept — between what is buried and what forces its way to the surface — is at the core of this painting.

The work is built in multiple layers of oil paint, each one applied with wide brushes and palette knives, then partially scraped back before the next layer arrives. Like geological sediment. Like the way memories accumulate — some buried, some visible, some refusing to disappear entirely.

The result: 200 × 120 cm of turquoise, silver, fire, and depth.

CERVANTES
The Mystery of the Missing Face

What would Miguel de Cervantes say if he stood before this canvas?

As I painted this, I couldn't stop thinking about the irony: the man who gave us the first modern novel, who taught us how to see the world through the eyes of a madman and a dreamer, left us no true face to remember him by. No confirmed portrait exists.

So, I painted my own version. Not a dusty, 17th-century relic, but a Cervantes trapped in a neon storm of electric blue and lime green. I wanted to capture his wit—that sharp, satirical gaze that saw through the "Golden Age" and into the soul of humanity.

Is he a thinker? A soldier? Or just a man wondering why we are still fighting windmills in 2026?

Come see my "Prince of Wits" at my digital studio.
