Botticelli, the great Florentine Renaissance painter, combines perfect harmony and idealised
proportions in his paintings.

His figures seem to be suspended in time - as though choreographed to music, they have a special
rhythm of their own. ☁️

The models are calm and melancholy, their gestures sobre and reserved, and
each movement seems to be imbued with intentional grace.

💡 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝘀 : each drapery, each tilt of the head, each gust of wind
conveys a secret meaning or philosophical message.

To fully appreciate Botticelli’s masterpieces, it is not enough to just admire them - we have to learn
to « read » them and decode their secrets. ✨

The restaurations at the Palatine Gallery at the Palazzo Pitti, in Florence, are almost finished and are due to be unveiled soon! The Uffizi usually gets so much more attention, but the Palazzo Pitti is definitely worth a visit next time you go to Florence. It's so full of masterpieces it is almost overwhelming!

Our personal favourites showing now at the Pitti are the Madonna and Child by Filippo Lippi, the Woman with the Veil by Raphael, and the Portrait of Pope Julius II copied after Raphael by Titian 🎨​😊

𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗧 - 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗬 👨‍🎨

🕯️In January, the slow and silent winter rhythm sets in. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁, whose luminous portrayals of snow are a symphony of light and perfection.

🎨 Unlike official academic painting at the time, Monet was not aiming for a pure, pristine white.
He observed how snow absorbs and reflects colours, and how the sky, the mist, or the frost transform the landscape into a myriad of nuanced shades of blue, mauve, and silver.

🌫️Painting in the winter, for Monet : the art of capturing a single fleeting moment in the changing light of day.

In December, the Vatican City takes on a special atmosphere. 🎄 Festive celebrations, Christmas decorations, and solemn prayers... Catholic Church’s holy headquarters is one of the most beautiful symbols of Christmas in Europe.

🌟 Saint Peter’s Square brightens with an immense glittering Christmas tree and a monumental Nativity scene, set up each year in the middle of the square.

⛪ 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 :

• Midnight mass at Saint Peter’d Basilica on December 24th
• The pope’s Urbi et Orbi blessing from the balcony at midday on December 25th

The exceptional Generalife palace at the Alhambra in Granada, Spain - the summer palace of the Nasrid kings dating back to the 12th century, and a testament to the 700 years of moorish rule in Southern Spain.

💚El conocido Patio de la Acequia del Generalife toma su nombre de la acequia de la Alhambra o del Sultán, que atraviesa por el centro sus 49 metros de largo por 13 metros de ancho. Esta estructura, que nos recuerda al jardín de estilo persa abbasí, fue restituida a partir de la excavación de Jesús Bermúdez Pareja en 1959.
