Meanwhile in the kitchen, Tom has been experimenting with new salads — and the roast broccoli salad has definitely earned its place on the menu.

Big flavours, loads of texture, and a proper thumbs‑up from everyone who tried it.

More taste‑testing coming soon…

Another chapter in our “Sue Does…” series as we count down to her retirement at the end of the month.

Today: Sue does stock control — and her absolute favourite part of that job is filling up the sweets in the ice cream kiosk.

Lids off, jars lined up, colours popping… she takes real pride in making everything look tempting and tidy before the first customers arrive. It’s one of those small but joyful tasks she’s made her own.

🌼 We can’t wait to see what everyone creates on Thursday afternoon

Our Free Family Crafts session is nearly here, and the Barton Lions’ Beer Tent in Baysgarth Park is all set to become a hive of creativity. From seed bombs to sunflower planting, we’re looking forward to seeing what our young makers dream up.

A huge thank you to the people who make sessions like this possible:
• Barton Town Council for awarding a grant to cover the cost of the artists and materials
• Barton Lions for the generous use of their tent
• Mark Nettleton Landscaping for donating the seeds
• Deepdale Garden Centre for providing the compost

Just bring your imagination and drop in between 1pm and 3pm.

🌱 See you there for an afternoon of muddy hands and big smiles

Beth was on a roll last week — just look at this chocolate cake.

Rich, glossy, absolutely stunning… and clearly you all agreed, because by Sunday night it had completely disappeared.

If you blink around here, you miss the good stuff.

“Sue Does… Sundaes” 🍨

Another chapter in our “Things Sue Does Before She Retires” series.

Today: she makes sundaes — and not just any sundaes. Proper, towering, joyful creations that make people stop mid‑walk and say “Ooh, what’s that?”

Here’s Sue with one she’d just finished. She’ll tell you it’s nothing special… but we know better.

We took this photograph at the weekend for no other reason than… the House just looked magnificent.

Sunlight, stonework, and that unmistakable Baysgarth charm.

Sometimes you don’t need an occasion — you just need to stop and admire her.

A less cheerful update, but an important one.

On Friday night, individuals decided to smash glass across several paths in the north of the park. It’s dangerous for dogs, wildlife, children, runners — for everyone who uses the space.

Thankfully, Rebecca, our dedicated member of staff (and keen parkrunner), was in early to open the toilets and spotted it straight away. She grabbed a brush and cleared the area before any paws or feet were harmed.

We’re grateful to her — and grateful that our new CCTV system will now help us identify anyone choosing to behave like this in future.

Let’s keep Baysgarth safe, cared for, and enjoyed by all.

Over the last two weeks, Baysgarth House and the surrounding park have had a major security upgrade.

Thanks to a grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office, we now have a fully operational system of high‑definition CCTV cameras covering:

• the outside of Baysgarth House and the Stables

• the car park

• the parkland near the House

• the public toilets

• across to the bowls green and Chad Varah Garden

This is a huge step forward in helping us protect the site, support the police when needed, and keep the park welcoming for everyone.

A big thank you to Internetty for working so hard to get the system online — and to everyone who champions keeping our green spaces safe.

The Junior Gardeners’ vegetable beds are absolutely romping away — especially the spinach. Last week Beth picked a big bunch and turned it into a spinach and coconut cake that was… well… very green. 💚🍰

On Saturday the Junior Gardeners had the first taste test and immediately renamed it Shrek Cake.

Most of them weren’t convinced they even liked spinach — or why they were growing it — until that moment.

One young gardener, Rupert, was so taken with it he marched his mum straight to the café afterwards to buy a full slice.

Growing, baking, tasting, learning — exactly what the project is all about.

SUE DOES…

All the things that keep Baysgarth ticking!

There are so many things Sue quietly keeps ticking along at Baysgarth House — and as she heads toward retirement at the end of the month, we’re celebrating a few of them.

“Sue Does… Decorating”

Today’s instalment: she decorates.

Here she is with Richard after a full day of painting, still smiling. Between them they’ve freshened up rooms, touched up woodwork, and kept the House looking loved and lived‑in.

It’s the kind of behind‑the‑scenes work most people never see, but it makes all the difference.
