She has been writing poetry for as long as she can remember. Mary grew up on Tennyson, John Lennon and Spike Milligan, and fell in love with John Donne and Cristina Rossetti at school in Lytham St. During A levels, she discovered the poems of Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath and Brian Patten. Mary studied English and Communication Studies at the University of Liverpool and then moved to Modena, Italy, sho

rtly after graduation, where she worked as a translator and interpreter for eight years. Mary continued to write, and with the help of the Open College of the Arts poetry courses, began finally to get her work published in various magazines and anthologies in the UK and Ireland. Mary received an MA in Writing at the University of Glamorgan and on her return to the UK, began teaching English in Secondary schools. Mary now lives in Bingley, West Yorkshire, with her youngest child and her border collie, Jess. She teaches and tutors English in various schools in the area. Mary is currently working on her third collection of poems, a sci-fi novel and a collection of short stories.
