If you fancy a ride on our 104 in Norfolk but also want to experience the rest of the diesel fleet in the same visit, the Mixed Traction Gala is the event for you!

M56182 will be in traffic all three days, and will be the centre car in the "DMU3" formation shown in the timetables, as well as also featuring in the "DMU5" set.

M53447 has now been fully assessed and a component recovery plan formulated. As part of this assessment it has been photographically recorded for future posterity, particularly the side that has been non-public for over three decades, with some of the views shared here in evening eastern sunlight.

The assessment confirms terminal decline to the structural integrity of the body, the likes of which would require years of work to ever rectify. Other areas are incomplete and in poor condition. Commentators quick to suggest that it should have been saved should take some time and thought to view the side angles in particular towards the end of the photo reel to illustrate this situation.

Put simply there is not the time, the money, or even the future work/purpose (if rebuilt) for this vehicle. Its parts are of greater value to the restorations of sisters M50479 & M53437, which will give preservation a total of four Class 104 DMBS vehicles. No parts will be surplus, as ALL usable items will be stripped off and saved for the preserved Class 104 fleet.

For those who have already commented with pragmatic reactions, understanding of our resource balancing act and support to our ongoing mission to provide QUALITY 104 vehicles alongside retaining a certain quantity, we thank you for your maturity and support.

Work at Bury continues on the bogies from under M50517. These frames are undergoing a full overhaul with all new bushes and pins having been manufactured by Higham Engineering. Once the weather allows, they will be shot blasted and painted.

If you fancy getting involved with volunteering on the 104's at either Bury, Loughborough or Weybourne then please send us a message.

M50454 has been tripped from Quorn to Loughborough today (8/5/26) to join partner M50528. This completes the move of our vehicles from Llangollen. We are looking forward to seeing the set in action on the GCR with Renaissance Railcars.
The first day in service should be the Railcar Day on Saturday 17th July (Subject to a B exam, and a vacuum cylinder repair).

M50528 has just arrived this afternoon at Quorn on the Great Central Railway, with its partner M50454 to follow very soon.
This is the sets new long term home following on from the last 34 years being based on the Llangollen Railway.
The Renaissance Railcars team will be looking after the set at Loughborough.
It's hoped that the set will be available for use during the GCR's Railcar day on July 17th.

M53447 last night making its first and final journey along the North Norfolk Railway. The secondman's side of the vehicle, now in terminally poor condition, has been very well hidden since 1993 with long periods of storage against trees formerly at Glyndyfrdwy and latterly at Pentrefelin, making photography of this side extremely difficult for 30+ years, other than one or two occasions on display in Llangollen station. Indeed, not everybody knew that only one side and the cab front were painted BR Green in the 1990's! Somewhat bitter sweetly, the setting sun shone bright on this side for the final move.

"The partly-plucked chicken has landed" (with apologies to N. Armstrong). M50447 has today successfully completed the move east to Sheringham. The extremely poor condition of this vehicle and the fact it has given many parts to other Class 104's over the past 30 years, means that with much regret it will not be going forward for restoration. Instead it be stripped of more useful components to secure the restoration and long term future of sister M50479 along with the remaining Class 104's at the East Lancs still to be restored.
