FREE Will Month

NFWI and Denman have partnered with the National Free Wills Network to offer FREE Wills to our WI Members and Supporters and what better time to launch than March – FREE WILLS MONTH. This is a limited offer so do get in touch as soon as possible. Click the link below to find out more and request your Supporter Pack.

Melissa Green, CEO, NFWI said “We are asking our members to consider leaving a legacy to the work of the WI, so that more women can benefit from WI activities, participate in our campaigns and enjoy fellowship with likeminded women.

Once you have provided for your loved ones, please consider a legacy to the future work of the WI. Whether you choose to support your local WI, your Federation, the NFWI or Denman – we promise to use every penny wisely to enable more women to do extraordinary things and help ensure the strong work of the WI continues.”

Should you choose to write your free Will you are not obligated to leave ‘us’ a gift.

Just a reminder that our talk next week (Thursday 19th) is from the Volunteers at Canons Ashby. They have created a new talk especially for us so we will be the first to hear the story of

"Clara Dryden - Lady of the Manor"

Clara was a watercolourist and her dated pictures have helped with accurate restoration of both the house and garden over the years. She also painted local scenes travelling around on her bicycle. Bob and Jeremy will be able to tell us a little about the recent archive project revisiting the sites of some of those photos.

It should be a fascinating talk.

Non-member ladies are welcome for £6

The theme for IWD 2026 is “Give to Gain”, encouraging individuals, organisations, and communities to give generously to support women's advancement, emphasising that when people give their time, resources, knowledge, and support, opportunities for women increase and we all benefit.

We’re asking members to share their stories with us throughout the month of February, highlighting the ways in which you or your WI have benefitted from others' "giving" e.g. mentoring, scholarships, childcare support, activism, or community resources. This could also include stories of how you have ‘given and gained’.

Email us your stories at [email protected] so we can share them on our social media for International Women’s Day.

This February, we’re bringing Show the Love back, crafting green hearts and starting the conversations that matter.

At a time when the story of climate and nature is being challenged, and some voices try to turn our love for people and planet into something divisive, Show the Love reminds us that at the heart of a fairer, greener future is protecting the places we share and the things we all hold dear.

Making a green heart is a simple, powerful act. It makes care, hope and positive action visible in our communities. These small gestures help reduce fear and division, and inspire and spark bigger conversations. Together, we can turn our love into action and spread hope.

You can find out how to get involved in Show The Love, including how to craft the green heart on My WI: https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/nfwi-news/articles/show-the-love-14-february

Don't forget to send us pictures of your hearts and activities at [email protected]

Newnham WI AED Demonstration
Newnham Village Hall
21st August 2025 at 7:30pm
This is not a normal WI meeting.

In line with the WI campaign, BYSTANDERS CAN BE LIFESAVERS, we are inviting anyone who is interested to attend the village hall where we will have a 'resusci Annie' and a demo AED.

We will go through a number of scenarios and you will be able to experience what using an AED is really like - hopefully, this will remove some of the mystery surrounding AED use.

Those of you wishing to have a go at resuscitating Annie may do so.

All welcome
There is no fee, although donations to the WI are always welcomed!
This is not a normal meeting, so please be aware there will be no refreshments available.

More about the campaign:

This campaign calls on WI members to work together to increase public confidence and training in the delivery of CPR and to work with local organisations to help improve access to defibrillators in their communities.

At the 2025 NFWI Annual Meeting on 4 June, WI members voted in favor of the Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers resolution. The resolution is as follows:

There are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests a year in the UK, and less than one in ten people survive. Women have a lower chance of surviving than men. Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation can more than double the chances of survival. We call on WI members to work together to increase public confidence and training in the delivery of CPR and to work with local organisations to help improve access to defibrillators in their communities to give every person the best chance of surviving a cardiac arrest.
