An announcement.
It's with huge pleasure that we can announce that the US Army 65th General Hospital WW2 has been immortalised in the traditional form of the USAAF Eighth Air Force aircrew.

A few months ago, Mr Andrew Coy approached me about using the 65th project logo to paint upon the back of a jacket he uses for reenactment. As the designer and originator of this logo, we had to come to an agreement, and all rights issues were overcome.

And so today, upon the hottest day in Britain this year I had the privilege to meet not just Andrew but also the painter of the jacket in person ( Alison Tunstall) at the 34th Bomb Group museum, housed at the Mid-Suffolk light Railway museum, at Mendlesham Suffolk.

I think you all can agree that the finished result is a cracking tribute upon Memorial weekend to the hospital Doctors, Dentists, Nurses and Enlisted personnel who served the Eighth Air Force right here in East Anglia.

Thanks Stuart.

It was also fantastic to see so many friendly faces supporting the 34thBG project too. Ollie Tunstall, Sophie Green, Lee John Gibbs, Dave Hines, Thomas Hancock.

A few months ago we were thrilled to recieve this photo of what was then an unknown 65th Officer outside the 65th Officers Club, at Redgrave Park.
After some though research, we can finally announce that the gentleman has been identified as Mr Robert 'Bob' Linicome.

If you are a relative of Mr Linicome, please get into contact with us at [email protected].

We know that the 65th had close connection to many of the Eighth Air force bases which surrounded it, here in East Anglia. However its incredibly rare to have a correspondence from one bomb group which not only mentions the hospital but also another group within another combat group. (With not obvious connection?)

" Dear George,
By now you have recieved a letter from my 100th BG comrade, Fred "Poppy" Jaiger [sic required] of Cocoa, Fl; HE had many connections with the 65th General Hospital and was thrilled to get my referral.-
The reason for this letter is to pass on a letter from Eden Prairie, MN, from Colonel Chester C Cox, former commander of the 388th Bomb group, there at Knettishall.-
I would appreciate it very much if you would place this letter from Col. Cox next to the photo I forwarded you earlier. I know the Harrells would concur since your memorial is dedicated to all those who served in the 388th BG.
Personall Regards,
Harry Cruver, 100th BG"

Another excerpt from the treasure trove of Mr George Stebbing's lifetime collection of the 65th General Hospital.
The Newspaper is unknown but we suspect it originates from one of the local newspapers, either the; Diss Express, Bury Free Press or East Anglian.
The date we suspect is post the last UK reunion in 1995.

ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GLOVES!
Frostbite was a peril at altitude and keeping yourself protected was vital as an air gunner.
One written testomony from Lt Col Galliard the Group Flight Surgeon at 381st BG, recalls a rather silly air gunner, who decided to take a look outside of the waist gun window to view the bomb target...he paid the price, frozen eyelids!

Redgrave Hall. Winter 1944/45. The worst winter in a decade!

This fine building was the officers accommodation for the 65th, with its ornate fireplaces, high ceilings, decorative dado, and fine architraves, it was a step change over the Nurses and Enlisted mens accommodation which were Tar-paper huts ( basically Timber garden sheds) which were either freezing cold in the winter or scorching hot in the summer!

Even though the conditions were harsh for the Nurses, they were there to do a job, and work they did. The Tar-paper huts became bastions of comaraderie, and the close relationships which formed remained for decades thereafter.
