Our exhibition at Junction is finishing tomorrow. We have had a great time meeting lots of people interested in different aspects of the history of Goole and have tried to answer their queries. Here are a few

When was Fountayne street built?- answer not sure but people were living there by 1915. Was it built we wonder in stages or all at the same time?

Have we any pictures of Aire street in its heyday? Yes a lot

Have we a picture of the house next to the police station and courthouse where the superintendant lived/ Not found one so far

What do we know about Benjamin Tysack and his wife the former Catherine Greig who are buried in Hook churchyard. We found that Benjamin was connected with Webster and Bickerton and Catherine's father worked at the alum works. They lived for a time in Orchard House Hook. More to find out.

But although the exhibition is being taken down tomorrow you can still ask us questions as we are at the hobbies exhibition and our next monthly meeting is on Monday 11th August when Dr. Alex Ombler will give an illustrated talk on Dr. William Eden Cass [pictured] who was Goole's first doctor. Born in 1801 he made two voyages on whaling ships before settling in Goole where he remained in practice until just before he died in 1890.

The venue is The Courtyard, Boothferry Road, Goole at 7pm. Members free, visitors £2.

Come and look at lots of old pictures of Goole and area, ask about Goole in the first world war and the area's waterways heritage. We can help with family history and we have hundreds of school pictures to look at. See you there.

A busy few days ahead. Not only are we having a stand in West Park on Sunday but Monday sees us in Junction setting up for our summer exhibition.

We open on Tuesday at 10am and there will be plenty to see. Our friends the Goole First World War Research Group and the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage group will also be there. The exhibition runs from Tuesday 22nd through to 2nd August every day from 10am to 2pm [ not Sunday 27th].

Come and recognise your self on old school photos and see how Goole has changed. Bring your own photos too for us to look at - and perhaps copy.

We are very proud of our new roller banner No excuse now about how to get in touch!!! Click to see full size.
