"Kirkcudbright Bridge"

I was lucky to get this photograph with no traffic on the bridge & before the current controversy which is causing so much angst in the local community. It was constructed in 1926 when it replaced an 1868 iron bridge. The 'new' 5-span, reinforced concrete bridge has ornate cast-iron lamps on each span. It looks almost Brutalist but pre-dates that movement by 30 years.

"Darwin's Barberry"

I took this photograph on one of my daily walks around the neighbourhood during the lockdown in 2020. Nature was thriving; oblivious to the surrounding human chaos. This shrub in particular was bursting with lusciousness & life.

"Danger, Will Robinson!"

This sign, "Non Toccate i Fili, Pericolo Di Morte" which translates as, "Do Not Touch The Wires, Danger of Death", was hanging on a bridge over the rail tracks of Brescia Station in Italy. Steampunk or Cyberpunk vibes??....what do you think?

"Oban Harbour Sunset"

I'm a sucker for a sunset & here, on the west coast of Scotland, we have some of the most spectacular sunsets ever seen. This is Oban in Argyll and the building you can see on the right is the wonderful "Ee-Usk" seafood restaurant. Ee-usk is the phonetic spelling of the Scottish Gaelic word, "Iasg", meaning fish.

"Gourock Lido"

Our fabulous Gourock Outdoor Pool! I took this photograph during last year's open season. The saltwater pool is heated to 29 degrees Celsius which is just below 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The hills look brooding in the background.....but what a backdrop for a swim! The facility also houses a gym & many classes. This year's season is due to start in early May with the traditional "Big Jump In". There are scheduled "Midnight Swims" throughout the year too!

"Green Sand Seabed - 1"

An abstract photograph of the seabed on the River Clyde Estuary looking through the beautifully clear water. Little ripples break the surface & add texture to the image. The waters of the River Clyde are becoming clearer & clearer with each passing year, encouraging a huge variety of wildlife into heavily populated areas....it's wonderful!

"Snow-in-Summer"

I love the delicacy of this little plant. I took this photograph last year in my back garden, here in Gourock, Scotland. To me, it evokes purity, fragility & innocence.

"Doha Dhows"

Another one from Doha, Qatar taken back in 2018 in a less troublesome time. In a way, this photograph combines my previous two posts....the location (Doha) and the subject matter (boats). I took this at the far end of the Corniche with the dhows in the foreground with that futuristic skyline behind. Some people have asked me if it is photoshopped but no, that's exactly as it looked in front of me. Again, just like, "Doha Fisherman", I loved the juxtaposition of the old & the new.

"Waverley at Custom House Quay - 2"

The "Waverley" is the only sea-going paddle steamer left in the world. Its home is here on the River Clyde in Scotland and we are fortunate to see (& hear!) her on almost a daily basis during the summer months. In this photograph she is berthed at Custom House Quay in Greenock, Scotland.

"Doha Fisherman"

I took this photo in 2018, during a more peaceful time in Doha. I was there whilst working on The Qatar Masters golf tournament. I loved the contrast between the old fashioned fisherman with his basic fishing rod against the backdrop of the sci-fi-like skyline.
