Happy Easter week everyone! 🐣

We know some of you are away at the moment – thank you to those who popped in before travelling and kindly got your currency from us.

Our opening hours this week:
• Good Friday: 9am – 12pm
• Saturday: 9am – 12pm
• Monday: Closed

I also have a huge favour to ask, and it’s for a very worthy cause too… a real win-win 🙌🏻

My son George (aged 10) has been given an Easter homework project called Fantastic Fivers. Each child is given £5 and challenged to turn it into more money to raise funds for their school’s chosen charity.

This year, they are supporting the Matt Gallagher Foundation, which helps people affected by motor neurone disease.

George has decided to make homemade organic dog biscuits, which we’ll be selling in the shop towards the end of the week. Every penny raised will go directly to the charity.

We’d be so grateful for your support – both for George and for this amazing cause 💛

It’s officially the first day of spring and we finally have some sunshine 😎 This week has been glorious. Apparently you can tell how old you’re by, when the sun is out you either think of getting straight to the nearest beer garden or hanging out your washing 😆 ………which camp are we in!

Now that the sun has arrived, we’re getting our slush machine up and running again 🧊🥤

We know slushies have had a bit of bad press because some can contain glycerol. That’s why we’ve chosen a mix that’s glycerol-free and very low in sugar.

After listening to feedback from our lovely younger customers, we’ll be serving mango and orange, and cherry flavour 🍒🥭🍊

And remember… these aren’t just for the younger crowd, those of us who like to hang out our washing too ❤️
The sun is here until Sunday ☀️ enjoy the rest of your week x

One of our lovely customers sent us these fantastic photos of the newsagent back in 1958 – well before mine and Sue’s time 😆 We absolutely loved looking through them. Some of you have shared memories and photos of what the shop has looked like over the years, and it always makes us smile seeing how much history these four walls hold.

We’re so pleased to say we’ve kept the tradition going with our pick ’n’ mix – still using the original Avery scales! There’s just something special about weighing out sweets the old-fashioned way.

I’m not a local girl, so it was only when I took over the shop that I discovered pineapple rock was such a big thing around here! The idea for bringing back an old school pick ’n’ mix really came from my own childhood memories – spending time with my great grandparents, tucking into rhubarb and custard, cola cubes and pineapple chunks.

Now we’d love to know… what’s your old school favourite? 🍬 Let us know in the comments!

Also a few have been asking after Mother’s Day cards, thank you, they should have been with us this week. We’ve been told they are on their way to us. We will keep you posted 😆

Have a lovely weekend everyone 🌼

Jumping onto this trend 🥰
We are officially in our Valentine’s era 😍💘

With Valentine’s this weekend, we hope you’re spending it with someone you love whether that’s your partner, a friend, family or even a furry bestie ❤️🐾

As the children break up for half term this week, we will be scattering a few red hearts on Friday around the village near our shop 💕
If your child finds one, bring it into the shop to see Sue where she will gift you a sweetie bag on us 🍬💖

I’m sure I saw the sun in the sky this morning, and it’s set to pay another visit on Saturday ☀️ Enjoy the rest of your week guys x

💖 A little spotlight on Sue from the village perfectly timed with Valentine’s just around the corner ❤️

We love it when you all pop in and share your stories with us; it always makes our day.

Sue photographed here has been married to Bill for 40 years. Bill is living with dementia and is currently in hospital, but Sue visits him every single day, true love in action.

Sue asked us to order Yachting Monthly for her, and when it arrived today she shared something very special… she features in the magazine. Last year, Bill’s long time friend took Sue sailing around the island of Corsica. Her husband Bill couldn’t make this trip but he had been on the same boat with his friends 12 months prior ⛵️

Sue took the magazine in today to share those precious memories with Bill.
Real proof that love is all around 💕

Valentines cards are flying out the door with just over a week to go, we have also made up some Valentines sweeties bags. Love is sweet after all 🍬

Have a lovely weekend all x

Happy New Year everyone!

We hope you’re enjoying our daffodils in the window a little reminder that spring is on its way 🌼

Most of us are now in our first week back to routine (that’s if the schools are open in the morning ❄️). For some this time of year can feel tough, while for others it’s a welcome return. Either way, we had a little reminder this week of just how fortunate we are to live where we do, and I wanted to share it with you.

A young man walked into the shop late one afternoon when it was already dark outside. He was FaceTiming a friend, showing him around the shop and the village on his walk here. When he put his phone away, we got chatting. He told us he was showing his friend the shop and the beautiful village because he thought it was such a lovely place. When I asked what it was like where he lived, he simply said, “Not as nice as this.”

It really made us stop and appreciate what we have: a lovely community, beautiful greenery, great walks and landscapes, a wonderful pub and restaurant, a sports club, and so many friendly meet-ups around the village.

I wanted to share this as a reminder that if you’re feeling a bit grim, get outside and take a look at the beautiful surroundings we’re lucky to call home.

I’m all for spreading love ❤️ and next month is all about just that. We have Valentine’s cards on their way, along with flowers, chocolates, and gifts for your spouse of many years, your partner, or even a secret admirer. Take a moment to remind someone how much you love them and spread that love.

We look forward to seeing you. Enjoy the rest of your week, stay safe and warm ❄️
