Hi, we're looking for a free standing (perhaps old fashioned!) Cheval type of full length dressing mirror with wooden frame to convert into a display frame. Does anyone have one you no longer want or have any ideas where we could look or ask?

Reminder - Just a week to go until the Historical Society and Leverhulme Hub joint pop-up cafe on Thursday 7th. May. Cafe 34 will not be running that day as it is being used as the Voting Place so what better alternative. Be sure to come along. Bidh e Sgoineil!

Our historical society is very much indebted to the person who yesterday left us a package containing this box and other items associated with Tilly and other paraffin lamps. We would love to know where these, particularly the box came from as it looks very much like part of a soldier's personal battle-kit. All these items tell a story and when we display it we would like to explain what it is and if possible who owned it. Please send us an e.mail to [email protected] or PM Hamish Taylor.

Over the winter we have been slowly making adjustments to our display layouts. These are at last coming together so we are gradually getting things in a more logical order.

We have also upgraded our digital technology and we have new computers which are a lot more compact than those we started off with, which served us remarkably well but were assembled from several salvaged and donated items.

Especially useful to us in our illustrated talks is our new “Big Screen”, which has greatly enhanced the quality of the photos and images we usually include.

For this coming season we will continue to be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, but we are making a slight adjustment to our opening hours, as follows:
Between Tuesday, 14th. April and Thursday, 30th. we will be open between 1pm. and 4pm. and from Friday, 1st. May onward we will be open between 11am. and 4pm.

SAVE THE DATE On Wednesday, 6th. May, we are having a fund-raising “Pop-up Café”. The time has still to be finalised, but please keep the date in mind. The “craic” is sure to be good, and the baking even better.

We are often asked, “When’s your next “Talk”? Well, we have two in mind. The first one will probably be on very interesting aspects of “The seaweed industry” of the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s and lightly blending into the present form of the industry.

A second topic will be a VERY interesting talk on the celebrated, but nowadays little known, Murchadh Chroladh. This talk will be delivered by Mr. Angus MacLennan OBE, (Aonghas Ghobhaig), who is a splendid orator and story-teller. Angus has a wealth of family knowledge of Murchadh and Croladh. He is allegedly retired but still has a very full diary, so we are contacting him to find out when he can fit us in.

Thank you for our encouraging interest in our efforts over the last couple of years so please come along at any time to see more of what we have to browse through.

Yet again our humble thanks to the wonderful audience at last night's "mystery" film show. It was also so encouraging to see new faces at the event. We hope you enjoyed it and that it gave you thinking material which will keep the memories alive for just a little longer.

Please spread the word and save the new date.
Sorry about this, but we'll send a reminder again nearer the time.
