"The Amsterdam" Prints avaliable soon!
Just one of Hastings little gems of history,
To see more you must visit The Hastings Ship Wreck Museum!
(Here's also a small poem I made to go aside this painting)
Come gather round peasants for thou has a story to tell,
About a Ship of the purest breed, sunken down to Davy Jones hell.
The date is 1749, as She lands apon the beach,
A local beach called Bulverhythe, situated just up the street.
She brings with her horrendous tales of storms, yellow fever and mutiny,
Yet the smugglers and towns folk of Hastings decided, they would take everything that they could see.
The crew were sickly, drunken and barley able
But took not lightly to this raid,
A battle broke out between them all and the towns folk out for pillaging who stayed.
Result- one man lay lifeless just near the shore of the beach,
More cries, shuffles and gunshots can be heard, while the battle begins to deplete.
(Let's not forget a fun fact my friends many are infectiously dieing or dead, as the pesky plague takes them all slowly...
Which surely by now MUST have been spread!)
The town Crier and Coroner were called apon to the scene,
Crimes committed clear as crystals yet they refused and disagree,
The Coroner snuffed over his shoulder... then said,
these men "clearly died at sea" so that's why their all dead!
She lays where she fell, in 1749
And it's said you can hear the battle cries... at a particular time 😉
And the riches she once carried... somewhat 2.5 tonnes,
Layered our crumbling cliffs with Sliver bars... and just.. quite possibly.... some Rum 😋
Thanks for reading! I knew it was there, but such an interesting story she holds!... oh and watch out for ghosts if you visit! 👻 👀
