Last chance to grab a 2026 calendar.

We may be almost half way through the year, but our 2026 calendars are worth a look, just for the pictures alone. For the all-year calendars there's a choice of public houses of Holywell and Holywell Transport.

All-year calendars - reduced to 50p each

We now have 4 designs of greetings cards - 2 birthday cards, a get well card and a sympathy card.

All greetings cards £2.50 each or 4 for £8

All of our mechandise is available to buy from Nexus Creative Spaces (the pop-up shop behind the Post Office in town), or from our website https://holywellhistorical.wixsite.com/historical-society

We've been asked to take part in this event next month. We have a couple of examples that we'll take along on the day, but maybe some of you may have stories of your ancestors always living in one particular town or village in North Wales for generations, and then suddenly you find they moved away at some point. Most common reason would have been to find work. In the 19th century Flintshire was thriving in terms of industry, but maybe your ancestor didn't want to work down the mine or in one of the factories - they wanted to break the mold and branch out into other areas of industry. I've seen instances on the census records where families have roots in Holywell, but then went off to Cheshire or Manchester for a couple of decades and then came back to this area. Let us know your stories, and if you're happy to let us use them at this event. Thanks.

Today’s spotlight is on Greenfield Valley Heritage Trust, the organisation dedicated to preserving the fascinating history of the Greenfield Valley. Today we’re showcasing the Flintshire Historical Society as we continue our countdown to the History Fair. As a relatively new society ourselves, we’ve taken great inspiration from Celia Drew, Secretary of the Flintshire Historical Society. Celia has been a tremendous help in getting us up and running – and truth be told, there’s not much about the history of Flintshire that she doesn’t know!
