Deep in the wild beauty of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, artist and printmaker Louise Worthy finds endless inspiration — from sweeping moors and majestic mountains to the turquoise waters and white sands of remote beaches.

After a career in fashion design, Louise returned to her first love — printmaking — bringing her background in textiles into her intricate, highly expressive works. Using techniques like monoprint, drypoint etching, collagraph, digital sinterescent print and linocut, she captures the soul of the Highlands in every piece she creates.

✨ We are delighted to be selling a selection of Louise’s prints - available to buy online today or come and see them in the flesh at the gallery!

Own a unique vision of Scotland’s wild, untamed beauty — whether it’s a windswept landscape, a serene loch, stunning beaches and its wildlife inhabitants, or mesmerising night skies every print tells its own story.

When you move 683 miles away to fulfil a long held dream of living in the Scottish Highlands, there’s no guarantees that you’ll end up finding your tribe but have to say we’ve been really fortunate to have met some amazing people and made some really special friends, friends who you can have BIG talk with as well as making merry! I count Sarah Bold as one of those people. I met Sarah when she visited the gallery, and we just got chatting and I invited myself over to her studio for a natter and I don’t think we stopped to take breath for nearly 2 hours. Making friends as you get older and in a new community can take a long time and so when you meet someone who you feel is a kindred spirit you feel immensely lucky.

I really love Sarah’s work and what drives her to create these exquisite pieces. She is fascinated by the impact we have on the ecosystems, geology and climate and how this interacts with the rural environment. For me her work has a way of capturing the essence of the Highland landscape. With moody palettes, textured brushstrokes, and a deep emotional pull, she is able to capture the solitude, drama, and quiet power of the landscape we inhabit and call home She isn’t trying to create perfect detail, it’s more about feeling a place, where mist, mountains, sky and stone all blur into something atmospheric and timeless. Where your imagination gets to fill in the gaps, whether through memory or emotion, where you sense the past, present and future all in the same moment, where nothing and everything changes.

We have 2 fabulous pieces left on the walls of the gallery and they are definitely worth making the trip to come and see them in the flesh! And if you can’t make your way to Skye then they are also available on our website.

We’ve been a bit quiet as we’ve had major renovations happening on the house which meant the kitchen / sitting room / dining room had to decamp to the gallery…the work was supposed to be about 6-7 weeks and finished a couple of weeks ago - he joys of renovations where you peel back layers and kinda wished you hadn’t! 😂.

Despite the silence we have been beavering away sourcing new artists and makers and Navah kinda fell into my lap…Navah visited Skye last year on holiday and came to the gallery and asked if I’d be interested in her enamel work. At the time we weren’t 100% sure if we would continue with the gallery in 2025 for various reasons and so I said I would let her know in the new year…short story long…we’re open for another season and you guys get a first glimpse at the stunning enamel pieces that Navah has created for us. The gallery is her first foray into selling via a shop and I’m thrilled that we are going to be a part of showcasing her work to a wider audience - one of the best things about a gallery is being able to support an artist and maker in their practice so this brings me a LOT of joy!

With no further ado may I present to you the luscious, vibrant and fabulous work of enamel artist Navah Langmeyer.

You can browse her work here on the website https://the1970.co.uk/collections/navah-langmeyer

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!
