Drakelow Tunnels Museum The Drakelow Tunnels Society has been renovating the Regional Government Headquarters since 2010

Drakelow Tunnels is an important tourist attraction for the Midlands. Drakelow played a major role in the Government Shadow Factory Scheme in WWII where it built Aero engines and parts for the Austin Rover Group. In later years, it was converted for use as a Regional Seat of Government and then years later it gained the Regional Government Headquarters status, its code names were LINSTOCK and MACA

DAM. The site had plans to house the Deputy Prime Minister if Russia had attacked us with nuclear weapons during the Cold War. Since 2010 the volunteers Drakelow Tunnels Society has been giving their time and effort to renovate the tunnels, They always had a museum in their minds and in 2021 the owners helped to secure a museum alongside a bonded warehouse that will secure the site for over 20-years.

Drakelow Strategic Food Reserves Revealed as Iran War Continues

Check the date, April Fools 😉🤫😂

As Trump’s war with Iran drags on and global security and supply chains are threatened, Drakelow has been contacted by the MOD for new construction of underground food reserves.

Since America first ‘obliterated’ (like totally obliterated) Irans nuclear enrichment plans in June 2025 (before they dug them up and got their nuclear weapons program back to the ‘within 2 weeks’ schedule), The Ministry of Defence got in touch to request the use of Drakelow to store important food reserves.

DEFRA had seen our already mighty supply of temperature controlled wine, using ‘state-of-the-art’ air conditioning and dehumidification and asked if we could step in and help them out.

We had a little meeting but the answer was yes, we’d be happy to help.

The question we had was, where were they going to store and what they were going to store?

And since 2025, we have been working with Government contractors to mine a new section of Drakelow.

It adds a further 200,000 sqft of underground space that runs from an access road off Adit B, down into the rock and it actually sits beneath our floor.

As Sandstone is relatively easy to mine, contractors have been working throughout the months and weeks and have disguised the removal of earth sent out in empty wine lorries.

We now have the 2nd largest Cheese and Water Biscuit stores in the World to go with our already well established wine storage on ground level.

It is such a concern, they have actually started production of crackers inside (or should I say, under) Drakelow, bringing back our original use of a Shadow Factory in time of War.

The government have also awarded us with a new Code Name of: GROMIT

The walls have been cement lined to 10 feet and should survive the intercontinental ballistic missile recently revealed by the Iranian Army (or a rogue blue on blue missile from Trumpton).

We can now bring you exclusive images of the new store which have 24 hour SAS guards and snipers within the woodland above.

Do you know where you're going to survive a nuclear apocalypse?

Back in the 1980's there were a few more options than now.

We also had more information about what to do if you couldn't afford an underground bunker for your family.

What have we been provided 40 years on? A text message telling us to kiss our bottom's goodbye 😬🥴

In this clip from Newsroom File, Andrew Harvey investigates the phenomenon of private nuclear bunkers, for which people could pay a premium and book their sp...

Today is and we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all our volunteers who have helped us over the last 15 years ❤️❤️

Drakelow has gone through many (many!) challenges, but it is still here today and you are still able to visit and enjoy it.

This simply wouldn't have happened without all the volunteers who have given up their time to take care of the complex, learn the history and guide you through our wartime past.

If you have recently been, you may have noted it was a bit wet underfoot, well due to our volunteers work, this is now a LOT dryer.

Work is being done to stop the moisture and a fan is being installed to help the circulation in and out of the museum.

If you would like to join our team, please get in touch. Saturdays are our work party days.

You may have seen an ambulance presence over the last couple of months at Drakelow, here's why...

PS, this was generic training to help in any situation and not in response to a specific threat.
