I've been rather quieter than usual over the last couple of months, and I wasn't entirely sure whether to share this. In the end, I decided that this particular experience was worth sharing, partly because it explains why I've had to step back from a few things recently, but much more importantly because what I've learnt might one day help somebody else.
I've lived with profound single-sided deafness and tinnitus since I suddenly lost the hearing in my left ear at 19. Then, a couple of weeks ago, the hearing in my right, and only hearing, ear suddenly deteriorated too.
Thankfully, following urgent treatment, most of my hearing returned.
I've written about the experience, what living with single-sided deafness is actually like, the adaptations I've made over more than 30 years, and why sudden unexplained hearing loss needs urgent medical assessment.
The article is also the first piece in 'Michelle's Journal', a new part of my website for occasional writing about life and work, disability and adaptation, projects and places, and some of the experiences that sit behind the work I do.
A Different Sounding World
Living with single-sided deafness, sudden hearing loss and the fear of losing my remaining hearing.
Here's the link in case it is of use to anyone :) ❤️

A lovely little local history project to share 😊
The Cherry Hinton Hub’s 2027 calendar is now available, and this year it takes a trip along Cherry Hinton High Street of yesteryear with old photographs, familiar places and some of the shops and pubs that have disappeared over the years.
I was very pleased to help with the historical side of this year’s calendar, and I’ve popped a little post about it on my website. https://www.michellebullivant.com/cherryhintonhistory/cherry-hinton-calendar-2027 The calendars are £7.50, with the money raised supporting the Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society and its work in the community. Read more about it below and where to get one:

Our Cherry Hinton 2027 calendar is in stock! It's a bit different to our previous editions, where we asked residents to send in their favourite photos.

This year, we worked with Michelle Bullivant - Archaeological & Historical Consultant to take you on a trip down Cherry Hinton High Street of yesteryear.

- What did the Robin Hood pub look like in the 50s?
- Where was the Hopbine b**r house?
- Where could you find Ling's Sweet Shop?

All these questions and more will be answered!

You can get your copy of the calendar from The Cambridge Building Society on Rectory Terrace or from The Cherry Branch café at the hub (the café is open until Wednesday 30th September, before closing temporarily).

Calendars are £7.50.

All money raised will support the Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society (a charity of local volunteers) in providing the café and meeting rooms for the community.

Thank you for supporting the hub!

I’ve just added a new photo archive to my website featuring over 150 photographs from the Cherry Hinton British Legion collection, showing local people, events and scenes from over the years. 📷
There are lots of faces and memories waiting to be identified, so if you recognise anyone, know more about an event, or can add any information to the photographs, you can add to the archive via the comment box below the photographs.
Another little piece of Cherry Hinton’s history preserved and shared for everyone to explore. ❤️
