ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PRESERVATION OF THE BASE AT RAF SCAMPTON JULY 2020 TO BE RUN AS A PRIVATE CHARITABLE TRUST
Two years ago today it was announced that RAF Scampton would
close and as a consequence the Red Arrows would be relocated. I created this group page to ascertain people’s views regarding this news and as a result the Save Scampton campaign was born. During the past two years we set up a petition to try and save Scampton from closure and this was discussed in Westminster by local MP Sir Edward Leigh last summer. It was subsequently confirmed by the MOD that the base closure would go ahead and that the Red Arrows will then be relocated to RAF Waddington but will continue to practice in air space over Scampton. We could walk away and let business people and developers move in or we can fight on to try and save this most valuable heritage asset. The proposal is that a Charitable Trust is established to raise money and present a proposal to the MOD for the retention and preservation of the RAF site at Scampton to be run on a 'not for profit basis' but for the benefit of all, not just the wealthy few. So now it is up to you.... will you help support our vision for preserving Scampton and taking it forward with a view to making it a working museum and heritage centre. It will take considerable effort, technical expertise and passion to see this vision through. We have already gathered together the nucleus of a professional team including legal, technical and land professionals but our small team would need expanding on a voluntary basis to help take this vision forward. We have already established that the council do not want to see the site bulldozed and developed for housing which is a HUGE advantage and gives our vision even more credence as we will not be competing with that sector in our efforts to secure the site. We know we already have thousands of supporters both locally, nationally and internationally and would need to spread the word to raise sufficient funds to present a master-plan to the MOD, and, if successful, to begin the renovation, preservation and development of this national former RAF base which played such a vital role in WW2, particularly with the connection to Guy Gibson and the Dambusters not to mention the Vulcan bombers. This is a brief idea of how it might look once complete if we secured Scampton. It would have a working runway

Provide a base for small private aircraft and executive jets
Heliport
Veterans’ village providing secure homes for veterans
Hotel accommodation for visitors
Control tower with viewing platform with facilities for aviation fans and photographers
Storage and a base for heritage aircraft
Aircraft restoration businesses
Usage for film shoots
Airshows and open days
Classic car storage and restoration businesses
Any renovation, preservation would be in keeping with the architectural style of the existing buildings etc. The possibilities to include anything and everything related to aviation are endless. This vision, some may say a dream.... but with the right support it CAN be done. It is our last and only chance to Save Scampton and all it stands for.
