Re recent press coverage, Pam says: I'm still unhappy as the Heath/Heseltine Government sent agents round, as many people remember, to FORCE us all to 'give up our traditional county', as from now-and NO argument! By only using the new name, and later telling everyone that the new county names have always existed, and ignoring ALL objections, that is how they did it! Why does no one else mention this? And NO further mention of the previous counties-or their destruction, completely against public will! And NO mention of local gov changes, OR 'admin only!' Just the permanent destruction of our beloved historic counties-which despite gov assurances that the old counties still exist, the councils/media, etc still tell everyone that only the post-1974 counties have ever existed, and the present gov fobs off any relevant questions from MPs/Lords. Flags are no good as how does anyone know what they mean? VERY FRUSTRATING! Pam.

I support and will vote for Reform UK. The need for a new alternative to fix Broken Britain is long overdue. We desperately need a common sense approach and politicians who actually listen to the British people and are aware of the real-life issue that affect us.

As a co-founder of the British Counties Campaign I'd like Reform UK to pledge to align the lieutenancies or so-called 'ceremonial counties' to the boundaries of the traditional counties, to reverse the county confusion and cultural vandalism which has eroded the sense of local county identity and heritage caused by decades of meddling and imposing nonsensical artificial administrative area names, many of which are long since defunct but left on statute.

Re Michael Parkinson, who died recently, so was on TV and all the papers. They say that he was born in 1935 in South Yorkshire! I OBJECT as it was the West Riding till 1974, and then it was FORCED on the people! Michael Parkinson would say that himself but he's gone. How can we STOP this, destroying history for no reason? It's the same of course for all the new places.
How can Henry and others help? Why is this false information getting out? Thanks. Pam,

In The Hindsley Hall Hotel where I stayed, they had a booklet for visitors, times of meals, etc, and an article about Cardinal Auther Hinsley who the hotel is named after. He was born in about 1868 and died in 1943. He lived in Leeds, till he moved to County Durham. Then he moved back to West Yorkshire in about 1922, 50 years before it was created and then against public will. I left a campaign leaflet in the booklet that said about him but no postcode that I could find on their web. Only 'West Yorkshire,' more hotels in West Yorks, etc. Not even 'used to be The West Riding. Very upsetting. Pam.

WHAT are MPs for? Ah yes, standing by while our culture, history and geography are destroyed... They have better things to do, right? From the weekend 28/5/23

BCC original email, sent by Gerard Dugdill, chair:

Hello, further to our call of a few weeks ago (speaking to ______), please find attached our draft green paper.

We would be happy to meet or chat with you to see if you can support.

Looking forward, KR, Gerard

MP reply (David Davies, Monmouth)

I am really sorry but this is not something which I have the time to get involved with.

Office address: Usk,
Monmouthshire

BCC reply:

There’s no real involvement, just an indication of support.

Thanks.

MP reply:

I am really sorry but as a Minister I cannot start endorsing things which I do not know much about.

I am sorry but I cannot get involved.

BCC reply:

You have the green paper, please see also our original draft bill, which sets out the background a bit more. Or for a quick guide, www.britishcounties.org/video

Lots of people in senior positions support. It’s about saving the counties, which can sometimes get mangled in the public mind.

Thanks, Gerard

MP reply:

Gerald

I am sorry.

No.

BCC reply:

Why not, please?

Thanks, Gerard

MP reply:

No time. Thats my last word.

Sorry but this is a bit persistent which is very off putting.

Lets leave it there.

BCC reply:

What’s more important than identity?

Persistent in protecting that, how can we not be?

Looking forward to an explanation.

Thanks

MP reply:

I wont deal with people who cant take a polite hint.

I am afraid I am blocking you and wont be answering any more emails.

Whatever it is you are campaigning for I don't want anything to do withyou or it.

BCC reply:

It’s not a polite hint, this is a crisis situation.

"I am afraid I am blocking you and wont be answering any more emails."

Then please resign from politics, as you are failing the public both of your own constituency and the wider nation.

"Whatever it is you are campaigning for I don't want anything to do withyou or it."

Ditto. So the story is – Tory MP for Monmouth won’t lift a finger for his county.

OK, we can publish on that basis.

Thanks.

NO FURTHER REPLY.

Harrogate Pump Room Museum.

I went in and found it very interesting, but VERY frustrating. No 'West Riding' mention anywhere. Just a hint of West Yorkshire in a display about railways in the 1800s.The lady on the desk advised me that in order to find out about the Ridings to go into Tourist information. I went in and left a few leaflets in a display place. Should have seen someone.
Councils Harrogate Council and North Yorkshire Council. Like ours in Grimsby, all historic photos supplied by N. Yorkshire Heritage Stock. Ours are NEL Heritage Stock. I HATE wrong councils plastered all over historic photos. Yet people go in museums to find out about the past history of the place. But they mislead...! I LOVE museums but get frustrated by wrong information. Among other sponsors which I forget, is listed English Heritage. We need to speak to parties, eg Reform, and get help back on the streets to collect petition names. I found a few interested people who would like the Ridings back.
Altogether an interesting day out but NO Ridings mention anywhere. Pam. PS Should we contact English Heritage?

We have 1000 years of history in Grimsby as part of Lincolnshire, going back to Roman times. NO ONE wanted to lose this 50 years ago! The 1974 gov asked us if we wanted to go into the new county of Humberside? We said 'NO.' They gave us the vote-we 'threw it out,' so they said 'You've got to go in.
After 20 years they gave up the fight. We wanted 'Lincolnshire' back. Instead, our then MP Austin Mitchell suggested Historically-meaningless 'North East Lincolnshire' which we cautiously accepted, not realising we'd lose all links with Lincolnshire. Today everyone is told it's North East Lincolnshire and always has been.
The council refuse to put up signs telling of our county history. WHY as people like such information?
A MAD situation. Pam.

Why can't we have traditional signs all over the country? I saw 'Welcome to North Lincolnshire' outside Scunthorpe. Consequently, I once argued with my hairdresser who said' Well, Scun, N. Lincs. And a woman of 52 who wasn't interested in trad counties, only towns.
On a BBC2 Programme at 8pm Paul Whitehouse about water companies all over the country, deliberately polluting rivers at times of high flood all over the country. To expensive to clean them, yet vast profits for shareholders. They started in Wharfdale but no Ridings mentioned.
They went to Lancs and mentioned the Roman connection, but then 'Tameside,' Grter Man, then pollution of the river that serves Windermere, a famous beauty spot.
Why can't we contact the Ministry of Transport? Museums don't mention them either.
When are we meeting 'Bolton for Chage?' Fed up. Pam.
