KAWS and Kenny Scharf bring their unmistakable worlds together in a joyful collision of colour, humour and pop culture.

With Joe Kaws, 2015, and Hapointy Guy, 1986/2021, cartoon-like figures, bold lines and bright colours become a shared language, playful at first glance but full of attitude.

that Keith Haring entered the established gallery world at just 24, when he joined one of New York’s most influential galleries?

Before that, Haring had built his reputation far from the traditional art circuit, organizing his own exhibitions at Club 57, the legendary East Village nightclub and experimental art space, while creating his now iconic subway drawings across New York.

In 1982, he joined Tony Shafrazi Gallery, a major force in the city’s downtown art scene. It was Shafrazi who encouraged him to begin making sculptures, and by 1983, Haring was translating his bold, instantly recognizable lines into three dimensions, creating both monumental public works and smaller scale pieces with remarkable ease.

Now on view at our Madrid space: Tom Wesselmann’s Study for Claire Putting on Robe, 1992.

Claire Selley met Wesselmann in 1957, when they were both art students at Cooper Union in New York. She became his wife, muse and model, appearing throughout his work across several decades. They married in 1962 and remained together until the artist’s death in 2004.

‘Painting, s*x and humour are the most important things in my life,’ Wesselmann said in a 1984 interview.

‘My sculptures are all about how they are made and how metal resists. They’re a test of strength, a battle between the metal and me. It’s a battle between the piece of metal and me.’ Bernar Venet

A major figure of contemporary sculpture, Bernar Venet is known for his monumental steel arcs, lines and angles. His works reveal the tension between artistic intention and the resistance of raw material, turning steel into a physical record of force and process.

‘My paintings are a footprint of my whole life,’ Sam Francis once said. ´Each painting is like my body print, taken at different moments.’

And what a life it was.

Born in California in 1923, Francis began painting while confined to a full-body cast for three years after spinal tuberculosis. Over the next five decades, he became one of the most celebrated artists of his generation, with more than 100 solo exhibitions and, from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s, the highest prices of any living painter.

A true international artist, Francis lived across three continents, married five times, and pursued creative projects around the world. Beyond painting, he founded a publishing company, a printing press, a holistic medical research center, a reforestation program, and a wind energy company still active today.

Pablo Atchugarry’s solo exhibition Scolpire la Luce is now on view at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea until 21 June 2026.

Bringing together around fifty works, the exhibition celebrates Atchugarry’s powerful dialogue with marble, light and movement. From marble to bronze, wood, alabaster and steel, his sculptures turn matter into rhythm, verticality and silence.

Presented alongside masters from the museum’s collection, including Jean Arp, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Giacometti and Henry Moore, the exhibition places Atchugarry within a living history of sculpture.

On this occasion, the artist has donated Energy, a white marble sculpture created for the museum’s collection.
