The Magic of Six Metres - Talk by Chris Deacon G4IFX

Why do people get so excited about the Six Metre band? Why is this 'in between' range of frequencies widely known as 'The Magic Band'?

Chris, G4IFX has been active on 50 MHz for the last 40 years but still keeps coming back - why?

In this talk, he will give a basic introduction to 50 MHz, why it's interesting, how it works, and how to get on the band. Hopefully, he will inspire one or two people to put up an antenna and give it a try.

Dr Chris Deacon is the current Secretary of the RSGB Propagation Studies Committee and a former Chairman of the UK Six Metre Group. His PhD thesis was entitled "Radio propagation through ionospheric sporadic-E".

Everyone is welcome to join us at the Marconi Centre, Poldhu, on Tuesday, 19th May at 1 pm for the talk by Chris G4IFX.

💙Together through the Storm: An update from Poldhu Care Home

Following the impact of Storm Goretti this past Thursday, we wanted to share an update with our wonderful community. While our building suffered roof damage, the most important thing is that all of our residents are safe.

We are immensely proud of our incredible team. During the height of the storm, a member of our care team acted instinctively when he heard the roof crack, carrying a resident to safety in his arms. It is this level of devotion that defines Poldhu.

To ensure everyone’s comfort, 14 residents were moved to secure areas within the home, while six others have been temporarily settled into our sister homes, Trevaylor Manor and Ponsandane. These moves were carefully planned with families to ensure a seamless transition of care, possessions, and, most importantly, familiar faces, as our dedicated staff have moved with them to provide continuity.

We can confirm that all residents are warm, well-fed, and being looked after with the extra love and care they deserve.

A Heartfelt Thank You ☺️ 🩷
We are overwhelmed by the kindness of local businesses who have already stepped up to help. To our families, staff, and the wider Mullion and Helston community: your support is our strength.

Thank you for standing by us. 🏠✨

Anyone attending the social event at Poldhu on Saturday morning, just be aware that there is a forecast for strong winds and heavy rain. Coupled with a high swell it is likely that the road at the Cove by the car park may be flooded.
It will be safer to access the Centre via Mullion.
