'Kelpies' is Bridgette's take on the Kelpies structures which are to be found near the Falkirk Wheel. Spot them as you whizz past on the Stirling to Edinburgh motorway.

The Kelpies sculptures are named after the mythical water horses from Scottish folklore, which are shape-shifting spirits that live in rivers and lochs.

The name also reflects the sculptures' tribute to the historical importance of the heavy horse in Scotland's economy and industry, as well as their function as a "displacement lock" system for the nearby canal.

Measuring 100cm x 80cm it is an imposing piece of art which has pride of place in our dining room.

This is Bridgette's first piece of commercial art called 'Boats' funnily enough.

There's a back story to this piece. On completion Bridgette showed it to me and asked for my opinion. It's 'ok' said I and off we went to the framers. Picked it up a few weeks later and what a transformation. The framer had suggested a really thick white chunky frame which framed "Boats' perfectly. It was ❤️ at first sight. It had to be mine!

Bridgette had an exhibition lined up in Peebles and off we went to drop off here pieces. We handed them over and set off to go home. Got to the car and I made some excuse that I'd forgotten something. Legged it back to the venue and saw the organiser. Please put a red sticker on that piece - it's sold - and rejoined Bridgette and home we went.

The weekend came around and we took a couple of friends visiting from the USA over to see the exhibition. Of course the first thing that Bridgette saw was the red dot. Who's bought it? She turned to me and said "it's you isn't it?". I feigned complete ignorance, both at the exhibition, on the drive home and at home.

I was again tasked. This time to go collect her unsold art. "Boats' came home and I fessed up. Yes I'd bought it making sure that I was 'the' first person to buy her art. It now hangs in our sitting room and some lucky bu**er will get it in my will when I pop me clogs. Can only hope they appreciate and ❤️ it as much I do.
