One of our smallest pieces of Impruneta terracotta: a Tazza. It's amazing how long even small pieces take to make. The drying process is one of the most rushed parts of the creation process in the clay industry, and yet it makes such a lasting difference the clay is given enough time to dry out slowly and naturally.

Impruneta terracotta is the historic clay from which all of our terracotta is made. However, as special as this clay is, the artisans who have dedicated their lives to this pursuit are the real wonders.

Our terracotta, Impruneta terracotta, has a wonderfully rich history, and it does not break in the winter.

Villa Reale di Marlia, near the city of Lucca, still has some of the pieces that Napoleon's sister Elisa had when she lived there from 1806.

Robert had a fantastic time visiting the London Museum Docklands London Museum on Saturday to see the latest in a series of Mudlarking exhibitions featured in London this year. It was a real treat to meet up with Jessica Forde who was exhibiting there and see all of the amazing time-worn objects preserved on the floor of the Thames through the centuries.

Robert is pictured here holding a beautiful shard of late-Renaissance delftware (c. Late 16th century). It is always amazing to see how the beauty of these traditional ceramics, like our Maiolica range, is preserved through the centuries thanks to the vitrified glazes.

So often I find that we are captivated by the moments of transformation that happen in art. However, in reality the transformation is happening constantly and each individual process is part of that important creative change. Perhaps more pertinent still is the idea that the finished creation is the by-product of the personal transformation which takes place during the process.

The moulds of Il Manifattura di Signa. It is incredible to be able to see the breadth and historic value of such a collection in the original catalogue from 1910. Sadly, almost all of these moulds are no longer with us as I explain in my next video....

Sometimes all it takes is a chance meeting to unlock a mystery....

My father's meeting of this amazing person was fortuitous, and next week you'll find out all about the unique and clever clay of this workshop!
