We were honoured to welcome Nigel Corner, High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, and Col Peter Stitt, Commander of the British Army in the North, to the Green Howards Museum today.

Their encouraging feedback and support for our forward-looking work and plans were greatly appreciated.

We’re excited to introduce our festive-season event—with a twist.

No turkey or Christmas pudding here; instead enjoy a traditional German fayre alongside an investigative talk designed to pique your curiosity.

Interested? Book your place for the Christmas Truce Match Talk - Truth or Myth on Friday 4th December.

Ticket includes a welcome drink, German food platter, a glass of wine or beer with your meal, and the thought-provoking talk.

This event marks the finale of our 2026 special exhibition: Battle Bowlers and Football Boots.

The collections team have been hard at work today putting the Early Years case back together again! They’ve spent the week condition checking and photographing items and today it was time to put them back on display, with some help from Exhibitions Technician, Jon Baxter.

Newly on display you’ll find a painting of Captain William Giles, by William Millar, 1773, which the museum purchased in 2025. The purchase was supported by the Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund.

William served with the Green Howards during the American War of Independence, fighting at the Battle of Eutaw Springs on 8th September 1781.

We note with sadness the passing of King Harald V of Norway.

The Green Howards and Norway's royal family have been connected since 1875, with several generations of Norwegian royalty serving as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment.

We offer our condolences to the royal household and the people of Norway.
