A good day today. At least it was a reasonable temperature in the museum. I spent all morning numbering the invoices etc. relating to Charles Hewitt left over from last week. Finished just in time for chips. I found a couple of interesting items in amongst all the invoices, a programme for a concert in 1880 to raise funds for the church clock, and a paper giving the rules of the Rushden School Board Penny Bank. Shop photos were sorted today but there were so many I don't think much progress was made. I didn't get one anyway, but this one of the beech tree in the Hall Park had been put aside for me. Someone is bound to be able to give me a name.

Warmer outside than in today. A lot of cataloguing done, but mostly photos. I have started on a large collection of invoices and other paperwork relating to Charles Hewitt, postmaster and stationer, covering the years 1874 to 1883. Although it can be catalogued as a collection all the individual papers have to be numbered. I have enlisted help with that or I would be working on it for weeks.
More photos were sorted but were packed away before I got to borrow one, so this week's choice in one of Vic Childs' High Street South photos.

We had quite a good afternoon at the museum today. Not rushed off our feet but a steady flow of visitors with several children doing the quiz.
As it's raining just now I thought this photo of flooded College Street was appropriate. Hopefully we won't get that much rain.

Back to normal routine today after our break last week. A lot of photos were sorted and I got a reasonable amount of cataloguing done. Mostly photos and paperwork so I haven't made much impression on the pile of material waiting for attention. Today was our student's last day so a chunk of the morning was spent working on his article on Rushden Station. We thought he had another week, but we were mistaken so it had to be a bit rushed in the end. I am hoping to get it on our web site this evening.
Now the photo sorting has started again I will hopefully get some little treasures to put on this page. My choice for this week is the Rose and Crown at Christmas with Father Christmas outside and the Fairground organ standing nearby.

What a lovely day we had for our opening, we couldn't have wished for more. It was not the busiest opening we have ever had but there were a lot of other events on today and over the weekend. Chairman, Peter Field, thanked everyone for coming, and gave a brief account of the exhibition. He also thanked all those who had helped us, including the Hall ground staff who are always willing to help with any heavy lifting.
The exhibition was opened by the mayor, Gill Mercer, who was introduced by our president Will Osborne. She made a short speech and wished us well for the coming season.
After viewing the exhibition the invited guests were served tea and biscuits, which on this lovely day could be enjoyed outside.
The photo shows the mayor about to cut the ribbon watched by Will Osborne and Peter Field.

A really long day today but apart from a final spin round with the vacuum cleaner we are just about ready to open our exhibition on Saturday. All we need now is for the sun to shine on us and plenty of visitors. We look forward to welcoming everyone.
This postcard of the Oakley corner and Wellingborough Road is another from our postcard collection.

Another busy day, but I think we achieved quite a lot. The cupboard was finally sorted so a lot of stuff could be packed away. Not all that came out seemed to fit back in, and there are a lot of boxes without a home. No doubt they will end up in my cubby hole which is jokingly called the office. Some things were moved round a bit so at least it looks different. No student today, he was not at school. Presumably he was poorly. We hope to see him next week..
This week's photo is from our postcard collection and shows Church Parade and the corner of Newton Road and High Street.
