- In this image, Joseph is 19 years old, and the year is 1944. At this time, he is a member of the SS (Schutzstaffel). Having been only 8 years old when the N**i Party rose to power in 1933, he grew up entirely under the regime’s influence, exposed to its ideology of antisemitism from an early age. Over the course of a decade, what had once been an innocent child was shaped into a ruthless and inhumane perpetrator of violence.
