🎠 A TRUE FAIRGROUND TREASURE 🎡
As The National Fairground Museum celebrates its 1st anniversary, we’re taking a closer look at one of the most important surviving travelling roundabouts in Britain, Edwards’ Gallopers. 🤩
Acquired by showman Robert Edwards in 1916, this remarkable steam-powered galloping horse ride is believed to date from before the turn of the century and remains preserved in its original travelling condition. Unlike many historic rides, Edwards’ Gallopers still features its beautifully carved wooden horses, cockerels, original transport wagons, and even its steam centre engine, “Little Beauty”. 😍
The ride also boasts a stunning 89-key Verbeeck organ and artwork created by members of the Edwards family alongside celebrated fairground craftsmen including Arthur Anderson of Bristol. 😱
After decades in storage, Edwards’ Gallopers became part of the Fairground Heritage Trust collection and today remains an extraordinary reminder of Britain’s rich travelling fairground history. 🥰
Join us as we celebrate a year of preserving incredible stories, historic rides, and the magic of the fairground for future generations. ✨
