🌟 Meet Kevin 🌟 He is our stalwart when it comes to putting out our second-hand books for sale - all proceeds of which go to Tavistock Museum .

He is also our go-to person for anything to do with the 1000s of images we hold in our photographic archive of Tavistock and the surrounding area. πŸ“·

Kevin is both a Volunteer and Trustee, but most importantly, is another one of our hidden treasures!β™₯️

🌟Be a Tavi Time Traveller this half term! β³οΈπŸ‘£

❓️Take the quiz to find clues to important dates in Tavistock's history. πŸ”Ž Then, complete the Time to Get Dressed board game upstairs in the affectionately named Duke's Library! πŸ“š

Wonder what it was like to dress like a Benedictine Monk, or an Evacuee? A medieval princess? πŸ‘Έ A Victorian Gentleman, complete with top hat and cane? Perhaps a Victorian schoolgirl? Then why not try on a few of the costumes provided - and make use of a photo opportunity πŸ“Έ to make memories.

Or maybe you prefer to take on the challenge of a scavenger hunt? πŸ”Ž A wordsearch on Museum vocabulary, Drake or Victorian school life, maybe? πŸ€”

Or perhaps you would prefer to quietly sit and read a couple of railway stories - especially if the grown ups are looking at some of the other things in the room.
Fancy sitting in some stocks?

Or have fun throwing some (soft, pretend) fruits and veggies at someone: big brother? Dad? Granny?? Hmmmm .... who will you choose, we wonder?!

Enjoyed your visit? Please give us a great review and share our posts! πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Entry is free, but please consider making a donation to support your local museum. Every penny helps! πŸͺ™πŸͺ™πŸͺ™πŸ’· Thank you πŸ™‚

🌟 In Tavistock Museum there is a stereoscopic viewer from the nineteenth century, which is similar to the one used by William Merrifield (1804-1885). Morris had a keen interest in early photography, producing images of Tavistock, local places and local people. When viewed, the double image on the glass slide looked three-dimensional. Some of his glass slides are on display in the museum.

William Merrifield was born in Tavistock and dedicated many years of his life to teaching and being a librarian in Tavistock's Tavistock Subscription Library whilst living in the librarian's cottage from 1841-1871 - which is now the Museum! 🌟
