Newly on display-

Staurolite found in Bushy Park

Staurolite is a natural reddish-brown to black nesosilicate mineral, noted for its cross-shaped twinned crystals, commonly found in metamorphic rocks. It is not found in the U.K.

Sometimes known as a fairy cross, it was used as a talisman or good-luck charm. This piece was found in the roots of a fallen tree in Bushy Park in the 1950s.

Architectural fragments from the 15th century Church of St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham. The nave of the church collapsed on the night of April 9, 1713.

Apart from the church's Kentish ragstone tower, these may be the only extant stones from the exterior of this medieval church.

We have this fantastic new donation. It’s got a great story but can you guess what it is? We will reveal it soon!

Did you know that in the 18th century ‘people of quality’ thought nothing of drinking their tea out of a cup or eating off a plate decorated with large creepy crawlies & other insects? Sometimes the insects would even be given shadows to make them more realistic! Newly on display at part of our Twining display.
