Progressing nicely. Only one ear to complete. I am using Polychromos pencils on double sided draughting film. Less layering than on Pastelmat paper.

Finally got back to putting pencil to paper. A subject I know intimately. This is my very own Lizzy an English Springer Spaniel. I always start with the eyes as they are the most important part of the drawing and convey the soul of the piece.

This piece has been a really valuable exercise in exploring how to use both sides of draughting film to build depth, contrast, and subtle layers within a drawing. Working this way has pushed me to think differently about how marks interact, and how light and shadow can be developed from more than just one surface.

There’s definitely more I could do—I can see areas I could keep refining, adjusting, and reworking—but I’ve reached that point where continuing would be more about fiddling than real progress. Knowing when to stop is all part of the process.

So I’m calling this one finished.
I know I could fiddle with it for weeks but I need a new project. of what I’ve learned through it, and I’m looking forward to carrying these techniques into the next project… time for something new.

This piece has been a slow burner. Now on the last few grapes. Then it will be time to balance the darks and lights before pronouncing it complete. I have loved this challenge. Original image sourced by Gretchen Evans Parker for "A complete guide to using colour pencils on drafting film". Using Polychromos and luminance colour pencils.

Slow progress but it's coming together.

Oh! How I have been procrastinating over this one. It's been on my drawing table for weeks.

This is a real challenge with all the subtleties of colour in the grapes requires a lot of thought and blended.
