Cretan Landscape Paintings Hi, my name is Frans van Vlerken. My hobbies are painting and writting and here I am sharing my paintings.

In 1977, I fell in love with Crete during my 1st 6 months stay.
6 years later I settled permanently in Makrialos and became a farmer.

Good evening to my friends and followers,

today I have again a few paintings to share with you. The one on the left is from the island of Gavdos - 40km to the south of Chora Sfakion, west Crete. A view on Sarakiniko beach.
The one on the right is from the island of Karpathos.

Crete' s east coast is relativly low on touristic development.
There are a lot of beautifull beaches, but there are everywhere archeological sites. So building is restricted.

Hi my dear friends and followers,
today I'd like to share again a few of my paintings with you.
This one is from a pine tree, visible from the south terrace of my house. Already when we were building the house this tree impressed me somehow. The way it is standing all alone on this rocky hill. And I said to this tree :'someday I'm gonna paint you'.
Somehow it is an exceptional painting for me. It is the only one
- so far - on which I wrote a little poem. Bottom right.

And here two 'mini's', The one on the left is a view on Mesochorie,
a village on the west coast of Karpathos. The one on the right is
from the island of Chrysi, close to Ierapetra. Chrysi is now almost closed for visitors, because of the damage they did to the natura.

Kalispera my dear friends and followers,
this evening I have again some paintings to share with you.
The first one is a view over the area of Goudouras. The most eastern village on Crete's south coast, not far from where I live.
Close to this spot I had for many years my greenhouses. So this was what I saw from the window of my car going to work in the morning. Also becouse of this I usually drove slow going to work.
And fast leaving it, on my way to the kafenion.

Crete's east coast is still rather unspoilt, compared with many other places on the island. Many beautifull quite spots, due to the archeological sites that are in that area.

Good afternoon my dear friends and followers. The first painting I want to share with you today is not a classical Cretan landscape.
You could call it though a landscape of a city culture.
This painting tries to express the situation of a man going home in the middle of the night. He's alone. He's drunk. Has his prick under his arm. And then he stops in the middle of an empty street
and starts a conversation. With a stranger? With himself?

And this one is from the famous village of Matala. It got well known, escpecially outside Greeks borders, for its hippie culture off the 60ies and 70ies.
