Today I'm going to talk about two art forms: Performance and Happening.

To distinguish them two, it's kind of difficult. From what i got from research, a Performance is generally written in advance, while for a Happening performance, the starting point and how the event unfolds is what makes the work. So, the more it interacts with the public, the closer it is to a Happening.

One of my favourite performances must be Marina Abramović's "Rhythm 0" (1974, Naples). The work involved Abramović standing still while the audience was invited to do to her whatever they wished, using one of 72 objects she had placed on a table. I think this would count as a Happening. It shows how giving people too much freedom can make them wild.

"Over the six hours, the audience could use any of the objects and interact with her immobile body in any way they saw fit. Amongst the vast array of objects were items like a gun,a knife, perfume, chains, flowers and lipstick. At first, viewers were hesitant and generally gentle, offering her a rose to hold or writing on her body, but soon turned violent. Her clothes were ripped from her body, her neck was slashed with a razor blade and her blood drank from the open wound. The performance finally culminated with the artist being given the loaded gun to hold, pointed at her temple, at which point gallery staff stopped the spectacle and removed the gun." (Sotheby's https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2022/women-artists/rhythm-0)

I also added a Happening with the title "It Wasn't Me" by Anonymous.

Gday everyone! Today I'm sharing something we had to do in 10th grade in architecture and design class. Namely we had to feel and become architecture. I'll add a video of our inspiration too. It's so silly but fun :DD

Also, we had to make a website for our architecture homework. This is mine: https://sjane6764.wixsite.com/arhitektuurblog

And this one was my design website: https://sjane6764.wixsite.com/my-site

They're not great, but i put some effort into making them look noice.

Seven 2019/20 and seven 2021/22 sketchbook pages, i encourage everyone to start their own visual diary!! Carry a small sketchbook with you and draw random things or people from various events, sometimes in order to hold onto memories you don't need words, visual sketches of things surrounding you does the job :)) plus it's an easier way of keeping a diary for lazy people like me.

A fun tip to give you: use anything you want for sketching. I have used coffee, flowers, coal, rocks, fruits etc. They all give colour and personality + it makes it feel more real.

PS: It doesn't matter if you're bad at drawing or not, everyone has to start somewhere!

Heyy so i just finished making my first painting in Ireland and ofc I'm sharing it on here.

"How are you?" Is a piece inspired by getting this question almost daily from friends, family and especially from strangers here. It's something that affects me because i think about how i am every time I'm asked that question, even though i know it's just a greeting. I would just say I'm okay nontheless, but it just keeps me thinking and questioning about things. I get this question more now because I'm in a different country, where there's a different society, nature, language etc. So this piece has bits of my surroundings and kind of my image of me being all over the place.

They usually post about exhibitions (there's always an exhibition up in the hallways), achievements, excursions, EKA (Estonian Art Academy) and other cool stuff. They have their Flickr account's link in their bio which has the works of students uploaded in albums.

Here's a link to their Instagram account specifically made for the exam works of 9th and 12th graders. It's in a way more comfortable to check their works here... i think.

SO, i think the right way to start posting here is by talking about my piece that is the profile picture. In the school i graduated in, there is an art exhibition held every year specifically for exam works of 9th and 12th graders. They could be installations, sculptures, happenings, photography, paintings... whatever you can imagine! This was my piece. I also made a lame no-preparation speech to conclude the exhibition :p

SARAH JANE NÍ LAOGHAIRE
"Paralysis"
(Mixed-media)
2022

Instructor Annika Tonts

Dreams are often related to what is happening in our lives and feelings that may be repressed. Those feelings can be stuck in the subconsciousness and while sleeping, the brain tends to give a sign of this problem and dream of solving it to some extent. The dream could be more indirect or abstract and is like an interpretation of the problems in real life.

With my work I tried to depict my sleep paralysis that was a result of my repressed problems and conflicts using mixed-media. I assembled the frame of the canvas myself and used potato sacks that I sewed together as canvas paper to convey the texture and contrast of my dreams. I also visualized places where this recurring dream occurred or where I had emotional discomfort. I did this by filming short clips with a camera in Estonia, Ireland and Morocco. The shots are of animals, rooms, houses, parks… Places where I spent my childhood. In this painting I used acrylic paints, spray paints, oil pastels, modeling paste, water and some cord. I show the assembled video on a small TV that sits on a wooden crate.

I was inspired to do this piece by a trip to Ireland. I felt how Ireland had a big part in the development of my sleep paralysis. As for my art style, I was inspired by Nick Twaalfhoven's colorful neo-pop style and Meru's exhibition "A monster lives inside me - give him love".

During the process of making this piece, I learned new perspectives and connections related to this dream. I was also able to experiment and study the mixed-media technique. I enjoyed collecting the materials for this painting and putting them together.
