The Patrick MacGill Festival is dedicated to celebrating, revitalising and honouring Patrick MacGill's life as a writer and to ensure his work remains accessible to new generations.

Taking place in Glenties from 23-25 October, the Festival will feature a rich and varied weekend of events, starting on Friday evening with a screening of Child of The Dead End, a 2009 drama documentary about MacGill, starring Stephen Rea which will be introduced by the director, Desmond Bell.

Saturday will begin with a guided walk through the historic landscape of Glenties, followed by two talks exploring Patrick MacGill’s extraordinary life and times by MacGill scholar José Manuel Pulido and Donegal writer Frank Galligan.

On Saturday evening, a host of local musicians and performers will provide an unforgettable night of music, drama and poetry, inspired by the poems and novels of Patrick MacGill, one of Donegal’s most famous writers.

The festival will conclude with a prize giving ceremony on Sunday for winners of the poetry and short story competitions for schools in the area.

Tickets for the screening, lectures and Saturday evening’s entertainment can be purchased at TicketSource.

🙏Saint Connell's Museum would like to thank everyone who supported our fundraiser on the Harvest Fair Day.
💰This is a really important fundraiser for us and your support and generosity will ensure we are able to stay open for the winter.
⭐️A huge thank you to the TYs from The Comp, you all were an incredible help and without you this important fundraiser would be unable to take place.
🪎We would also like to thank Costcutters, The Co-op, The Highlands Hotel and The Thatch for generously donating prizes for our raffle.
🎉Finally we would like to congratulate the Harvest Fair committee, the festival was an outstanding success.

We wish to extend our gratitude to “young” Leo McLoone, who very kindly donated to us this famous and unique bar counter from “Phelans pub”.

We finally have it situated and have given it the recognition it deserves since it is no longer in its original place.

It featured famously in Brian Friel’s “Translations” and served many famous characters in history down through its life time.
