Before it became known as Cobh, the town was called Queenstown.

The name was adopted in 1849 to commemorate Queen Victoria's first visit to Ireland.

It was under this name that the town became famous around the world as Titanic's final port of call on 11 April 1912.

In 1920, following Irish independence, the town officially reverted to its original Irish name, Cobh.

When the Titanic anchored at Queenstown (now Cobh) on 11 April 1912, 123 passengers boarded the ship before she set sail on her maiden voyage across the Atlantic.

Of those passengers, just 3 travelled First Class, 7 travelled Second Class, and 113 travelled Third Class. Each carried their own hopes, dreams, and plans for a new life abroad.

At just 20 years old, Anna Katherine Kelly left County Mayo aboard the Titanic from Queenstown, bound for a new life in Chicago.

She was a third-class passenger, and she survived the disaster. Unfortunately, she was forever haunted by the memories of that night.

Anna later dedicated her life to teaching and became a nun, known as Sister Patrick Joseph Kelly. Her remarkable journey is one of resilience, faith, and survival.

Anna was one of the 123 passengers who boarded the Titanic at Queenstown. Their stories still live on at Titanic Experience Cobh, where every visitor receives the boarding pass of an actual passenger and follows their journey through history.
