This exhibition is part of the “Tourism Product Development through the Design Process for Women’s Income Generation” project, which Nagaoka Institute of Design has been implementing in Xieng Khouang Province, Lao PDR, since 2022 under the JICA Partnership Program.
Through this project, we apply the design process to develop sustainable tourism products. In recent years, design thinking and design processes have attracted increasing attention across a wide range of fields, including business and education.
Design is not simply about creating beautiful or sophisticated objects based on personal preferences. It involves understanding the perspectives and ideas of others, identifying what they truly need, and connecting these insights to new ideas and creative possibilities.
This exhibition presents and sells tourism products developed in collaboration with communities in Xieng Khouang Province. These products have been continually refined by incorporating elements of traditional village life that visitors may find appealing.
“Phu Hak” was designed based on the feelings and pride that villagers expressed for their respective communities through non-verbal forms of expression. It is more than a symbol for the products; it is also a mark that conveys the villagers’ feelings and pride.
