This painting was inspired by the daughter of the great Ukiyoe painter Katsushika Hokusai, O-ei or O-jo. Her work and that of her hather inspired me to develop my own Wabigi style 和美画.
Omouyari 思うやりis an important aspect of Japanese culture. It refers to empathy, compassion, and considerate kindness toward others. It involves putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and acting with gentle sensitivity to their feelings and needs—often without being asked. More than sympathy or politeness, omoiyari embodies a proactive emotional intelligence, central to harmonious relationships in Japanese society. It is often expressed quietly, through actions rather than words.
この絵は、偉大な浮世絵師・葛飾北斎の娘、大江（応為）にインスピレーションを受けて描いた作品です。
彼女の作品、そして父・北斎の作品は、私が独自に発展させた「和美画（わびが）」スタイルの礎となりました。
