"My complexes and negative emotions continuously troubled me, creating a sense of anxiety and a desire to escape, as they floated aimlessly. It was from this desire to anchor them somewhere that my work began. Through the act of painting, I transition from the real world to an unreal one. This transition is revealed by breaking away from the repetitive nature of daily life, habitual behaviors, and irrational situations that define my existence, eventually leading to the creation of a new world.” - Hwasoo You

이젤리는 2025년 1월 8일(수)부터 3월 1일(토)까지 자연의 장면들을 ‘맛있는 산수’로 구현하며 동양화의 미학을 명료하면서도 유머러스하게 풀어낸 하루.K 작가의 'Drinking in the Painting' 전을 개최한다. 이번 전시에서는 하루.K 작가의 주요 작품인 'Pour the Tea' 시리즈와 ‘다향만리’ 시리즈 신작이 전시된다. 차의 냄새를 맡으며 찻잔 속 도원경을 거닐다 보면 과거와 현재의 경계를 초월한 여정을 떠나는 독특한 경험을 하게 될 것이다.

EASELLY is pleased to host Haru.K's solo exhibition "Drinking in the Painting" from January 8 to March 1, 2025. The artist reinterprets the essence of traditional Korean landscape art with modern techniques, blending both spiritual and material values to create art that resonates universally. Through his latest Pour Tea series and The Scent of Tea Spreads Far and Wide series, visitors are invited to explore sensory-rich "utopias in a teacup," where Haru.K bridges the divide between past and present, offering a unique journey through time.

Haru.K, born in 1980 in South Korea, seeks to adapt traditional Korean painting by replacing the conventional concepts in landscape painting and sketching from life with subject matter that he notes and records from within the contemporary environment. He won a grand prize at the Shinsegae Art Awards and has served as a resident artist at the Cheongju Art Studio and the Gwangju Museum of Art Yangsandong Art Studio. His work can be found in the collection of the MMCA Government Art Bank, the Gwangju Museum of Art, and other institutions.

The animal figures of horses, deer, and other animals, which are the motifs of Woojin Kim's works, are the medium through which the artist, who dreamed of becoming a zookeeper, realizes his childhood memories and dreams with passion. The artist focuses on emotional representations, such as dreams and wishes that she had to give up due to his surroundings and complex relationships. The diverse and intense colors and materials that express the work are an important factor in understanding the artwork. The harsh black touches that cover the entire surface of the work represent the hardships and adversities we face in the world and allude to the trials and episodes of the artist's childhood. Stainless steel, the material of the work, gives the work a strong energy due to its strong physical properties and durability, which allows it to last almost permanently without fading. His artwork, which is a dynamic representation of dreams, resonates with the viewer and is recreated anew through their own interpretation.

김우진 작가의 작품 모티브인 말, 사슴 등의 동물 형상들은 사육사를 꿈꾸어 왔던 작가가 열정을 담아 유년시절의 기억과 꿈을 실현시키기 위한 매개체이다. 작가는 외형적인 동물 표현을 벗어나 작가가 주변 환경과 복잡한 인간관계들로 인해 포기해야만 했던 꿈, 소망과 같은 정서적 재현에 집중한다. 작품을 표현하는 다양하고 강렬한 색채와 재질은 작품을 이해하게 하는 중요한 요소이다. 작품 표면 전체를 덮고 있는 거친 검정 터치는 세상을 살아가며 겪는 우리의 고난과 역경을 대변하고, 작가의 유년기에 겪었던 시련과 에피소드들을 함축하고 있다. 작품 재질인 스테인레스는 강한 물성과 내구성으로 거의 영구적으로 퇴색되지 않고 지속성을 유지할 수 있다는 점에서 작품에 강한 에너지를 불어 넣는다. 꿈을 역동적으로 표현하는 작가의 작업은 관람객들의 공감을 불러일으키며 각자의 재해석으로 새로운 느낌으로 재창조되어 진다.

이젤리는 ‘꿈’이라는 주제를 각기 다른 방식으로 접근, 해석하여 예술적으로 표현하는 김우진, 정수진 작가를 초대하여 ‘뜻밖의 소통(Unexpected Communication)’전을 개최한다. 꿈은 이상적으로 추구하는 희망이자 무의식 속에서 희망을 이루려는 바램이다. 김우진, 정수진 작가는 실현되지 못한 이상적인 꿈과 무의식 속에서 발현되는 물리적인 꿈을 각각 조각과 회화로 표현한다. 표현방식은 다르지만 내면의 ‘나’를 바라보는 방식과 그들이 추구하는 지향 점은 동일하다. 현실과 이상 사이의 괴리를 겸허히 수용하며 예술적으로 승화한 두 작가의 작품을 통해 삶을 대하는 겸손한 자세를 배우게 된다.

Easelly is holding an exhibition "Unexpected Communication," featuring artists Woojin Kim and Sujin Jung, who explore the theme of "dreams" in distinct yet complementary ways. Dreams embody both the idealistic hopes we pursue and the subconscious desires that strive for fulfillment. Woojin Kim expresses unrealized ideal dreams through sculpture, while Sujin Jung captures the physical manifestations of dreams from the unconscious in her paintings. While the expression is different, they look at their inner “me” and what they are striving for is the same way. Through their works, which humbly embrace the gap between reality and ideals, viewers are invited to learn a modest attitude towards life. The exhibition ultimately fosters an unexpected dialogue about dreams, encouraging reflection on the relationship between our conscious ambitions and unconscious yearnings.

In "Unrealistic Space," Hwasu Yoo creates an imaginative space—essentially a utopia—by disguising exhausted subjects, worn down by various institutions and concepts of the real world, as boys and girls through the act of "drawing" and adding "fabric objects."
Through these characters, the artist wishes for viewers to recognize them as protagonists in their own lives and to discover the diverse stories they embody.

Eunjoo Go offers comfort and a positive perspective on life to modern individuals who feel anxiety about an uncertain future. She addresses concerns for her own and her family's well-being by borrowing traditional cultural symbols such as "amulets," "seolwi seolgyeong," and "jihwa (paper flowers)" as artistic tools. Incorporating universal symbols from our heritage, symmetrical compositions, and the harmony of the five traditional colors, she utilizes Eastern materials like silk and mineral pigments to create works with symbolic motifs and characters arranged symmetrically.

고은주 작가는 불확실한 미래에 대한 불안감을 가지는 있는 현대인들에게 위로와 긍정적인 삶의 의미를 부여해주며, 일상적으로 생기는 자신과 가족의 안녕에 대한 걱정과 불안을 전통적인 기원문화의 ‘부적’, ‘설위설경’, ‘지화(紙花)’ 등을 예술적 도구로 차용한다. 우리 전래의 보편적 상징성과 대칭 구도, 오방색의 조화로움을 작품에 담아내는 작가는 비단에 석채를 이용한 동양적인 재료를 사용하여, 각 작품마다 상징성을 지닌 도상이나 문자를 대칭적으로 배열한다.

'Unrealistic Space'

Hwasu Yoo's work stems from a desire to create a new world by breaking free from all the environments that make up her life, such as repetitive routines, habitual behaviors, and absurd situations. Alongside a longing for the purity of childhood, her fear of the harsh adult society has been transformed into a utopian space through the techniques of painting and collage, incorporating elements of nature like plants. In this imaginary world, the artist collects words that symbolize freedom, aiming to escape from the deficiencies and oppressions surrounding her, while navigating between reality and the unreal to realize her own ideal world. The process of collaging fabric pieces on the canvas is informed by the experiences she had during her childhood.

유화수의 작업은 반복적인 일상, 습관적인 행동, 부조리한 상황 등 그녀의 삶을 구성하는 모든 환경에서 벗어나 새로운 세계를 창조하려는 열망에서 비롯된다. 어린아이의 순수함을 동경함과 더불어 냉혹한 어른 사회에 대한 두려움은 그리기와 꼴라주 기법을 통해 자연의 요소인 식물과 접목되어 유토피아적인 공간으로 재탄생하게 되었다. 이러한 가상의 세계에서 작가는 자유를 상징하는 말을 채집함으로써 자신을 둘러싼 결핍과 억압에서 벗어나고자 하였으며, 현실과 비현실을 넘나들며 자신만의 이상세계를 구현해내고자 하였다. 화면 위에 패브릭 조각들을 꼴라주 하는 작업방식은 작가의 유년시절 겪었던 경험들을 통해 이루어졌다.
