“예술은 단순한 직업이 아니라, 생존을 위한 필수적인 행위이자 진실을 기록하고 보존하는 방식이다.”
모아예드 아부 암무나(Moayed Abu Ammouna)는 팔레스타인 가자에서 태어나 현재도 그곳에서 살아가며 작업하고 있는 시각예술가이자 영화감독입니다. 그의 작업은 땅과 경계, 집단 기억, 인간의 회복력, 그리고 이주와 상실을 겪는 공동체의 삶과 의지를 깊이 있게 담아내고 있습니다. 그에게 예술은 단순한 표현을 넘어, 삶을 지탱하는 필수적인 행위이자 진실을 기록하고 보존하는 방식입니다.

🌊 When Your Recording Becomes Art 🌊

When Your Recording Becomes Art is a 4-week art program designed for international residents and those connected to the vibrant city of Busan.

Together, we will explore Busan’s unique sea and cityscapes through a field trip and a series of creative workshops. Participants will transform their personal observations and memories into artistic records using writing, drawing, and other forms of creative expression.

The program concludes with a one-day group exhibition where we share our stories.
No previous art experience is required — just curiosity and openness to explore.

Against Pompidou: A Solidarity Exhibition in Busan

In response to the proposed Pompidou Center in Busan, this exhibition considers its implications for the city’s cultural landscape and artistic ecology.
It asks: What kind of museum is needed here? And who, ultimately, is the city for?
Bringing together diverse voices, the exhibition forms a space for reflection, critique, and collective solidarity.

What an absolute honor it has been to host ’s exhibition at Arise.

Thank you, Fintan, for coming all the way to Busan—for your generosity, your warmth, and for sharing such thoughtful and powerful work with us. It felt as though the space held a different kind of stillness over these past weeks.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who visited, spent time with the works, and shared conversations with us.

A special thank you to Chu PD() for capturing the exhibition so beautifully.

어라이즈에서 핀탄 작가님의 전시를 함께할 수 있어서 너무나 큰 영광이었습니다.

The final week of Fintan’s exhibition has begun.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the show yet, this is a lovely moment to stop by. Take some time with the work, look closely, and let the images slowly unfold.

It’s been such a joy to share this exhibition with you and to see so many people come through the space over the past weeks. If you’ve been thinking about visiting, we’d love to welcome you.

The exhibition is on view until March 22. We are open Thursday–Sunday, 1–7pm.

When I first opened Arise, there were so many things I wanted to start.
I’m finally beginning to bring some of those ideas to life.

One of them is Arise Press Zine Circle 🌀

It’s a small four-week circle where a group of creators gathers regularly to share work, exchange feedback, and slowly develop their own zines. By the end of the program, each participant will complete a finished, print-ready zine.

The zines we make together will also travel a little further — they’ll be presented on an Arise Press table at Sābrs Zine Festival in Riga, Latvia (July 2026).

If you’ve been wanting to make a zine, or if you have an idea that’s been sitting in the back of your mind, this circle is a space to finally turn it into something real ☺️

어라이즈 문을 열면서 하고 싶은 것들이 참 많았는데, 이제 하나씩 시작해보려고 합니다.

그중 하나인 어라이즈 진 서클! 🌀

소규모의 창작자들이 모여 서로의 작업을 나누고 피드백을 주고받으며 각자의 진(zine)을 만들어가는 4주 모임입니다. 프로그램이 끝날 때는 각자 하나의 완성된 진을 만들게 됩니다.

그리고 이번 모임에서 만들어진 진은 라트비아 리가에서 열리는 Sābrs Zine Festival에서 어라이즈 프레스 테이블을 통해 함께 소개될 예정입니다.

혼자서는 계속 미뤄두었던 아이디어가 있다면 이번 기회에 함께 모여 실제로 완성해보는 시간이 되었으면 합니다 ☺️

Last week we opened our exhibition with Fintan Whelan() and it was such a special day for Arise. Thank you to everyone who came to see the show and meet the artist.

A big thank you as well to Fintan, and to the Irish Embassy in Seoul() for supporting this exhibition.

If you couldn’t make it to the opening, the exhibition is still on view until March 22. Come by and spend some time with the work — we’d love to see you.
