오늘은 Aethereya의 개인전 𝙄𝙍𝙄𝘿𝙄𝘼𝙉: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙡𝙨𝙚𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣 의 마지막날입니다. 25년에 걸친 그의 여정을 최초로 선보일 수 있는 자리가 될 수 있음에 333갤러리 또한 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다. 작가의 작업은 빛보다 어둠을, 색보다 침묵을 이야기합니다. 검은 색조와 레이어로 구성된 이미지들은 마치 타자의 내면과 접속하는 창(窓)처럼 작용하며, 여러분께서도 그 창 너머를 바라보듯 자신의 내면과 마주하는 시간이었기를 바랍니다. 함께해주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다.

Today marks the final day of Aethereya’s solo exhibition, 𝙄𝙍𝙄𝘿𝙄𝘼𝙉: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙡𝙨𝙚𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣. It has been a deeply meaningful experience for 333Gallery to present the full arc of the artist’s 25-year journey for the first time. Aethereya’s work speaks of darkness more than light, of silence more than color. Through layered fields of black tones, his images serve as windows into the inner lives of others—and we hope they have also offered you a quiet space to reflect on your own. Thank you sincerely to everyone who joined us during this exhibition.

His paintings are thus born in a fertile cultural in-between, where the tradition of shān shuǐ huà (山水画)—the painting of mountains and waters—conversates with the symbolic imaginaries of the West. Through this fusion, Aethereya explores inner landscapes, meditative visions that go beyond simple topography to become manifestations of the soul. The artist draws on the Romantic depths of Caspar David Friedrich, whose lost horizons and figures from behind invite contemplation of the sublime, and on the dreamlike mythology of Arnold Böcklin, where nature is charged with mystery and ambiguity. Added to this Romantic lineage are Impressionist influences: Monet’s vibratory treatment of light, Manet‘s play of erasure and appearance, particularly visible in his Water Lilies, resonate discreetly in the textures of Aethereya, where matter seems to breathe.

그의 작품 세계는 중국 전통 산수화(山水画)의 미학을 기반으로 하면서도, 서구 낭만주의 및 인상주의 회화와 깊은 교감을 이룬다. 인간의 실존과 자연의 숭고함을 담아낸 카스파르 다비드 프리드리히의 고요한 풍경, 아르놀트 뵈클린의 신화적 상상력이 깃든 자연 이미지, 그리고 모네의 빛과 색의 진동, 마네의 수련 속에 드러나는 형상의 해체에 이르기까지, Aethereya는 이들의 정신을 작품 속에 녹여낸다. 그의 회화는 형상과 감각, 기억과 꿈이 교차하는 경계에 위치하며, 그 자체가 하나의 명상적 풍경으로 자리한다.

The works presented by the artist in this exhibition resonate with the tradition of anticipation—a literary genre once prominent in France. Rooted in observations of the present, this narrative form imagined possible futures shaped by political, scientific, and civilizational trajectories. In this lineage, IRIDIAN projects a future that could unfold from our current moment, ultimately serving as a way to speak about the present.

이번 전시를 통해 작가가 펼쳐 보이는 작품들은 본래 ‘예언소설(anticipation)’로 분류되는 장르의 맥락에 닿아 있습니다. 동시대의 현실을 바탕으로 미래를 상상하는 이 서사 전통 속에서, IRIDIAN은 일어날 수 있는 미래를 투사하며, 궁극적으로는 현재를 말하는 방식이 됩니다.

“철학의 본질적인 질문 중 하나는 그림자와의 관계 속에 여전히 새겨져 있습니다. 그림자는 어둠이며, 빛의 형태를 드러내는 현현(顯現)입니다. 그림자는 빛의 침묵이며, 그 안에 꿈과 희망이 잠들어 있습니다. 별이 드러나는 곳도 어둠속이며, 그 속에서 인간의 시선 앞에 광대한 차원이 열리고, 정신은 마침내 현실의 형상으로부터 자유로워집니다. 철학적 해답은 본질적으로 그림자로 이루어져 있으며, 그것은 틈새 속에, 심연 속에 머무릅니다.” — 전시 서문 발췌

“One of the essential questions of philosophy remains inscribed in its relationship to the shade. Shadow is darkness, it is the manifestation of light which gives it form, shadow is the silence of light. It is in it that dreams and hopes sleep, and it is in darkness that the stars manifest, and that an immense dimension opens to the human gaze where the spirit is finally freed from the forms of reality. “The Silent Realm in the story is a kingdom without a land or king, but a people who maybe survived somewhere. They are the Silent Realm, and this realm is called IRIDIAN in their language.”
This exhibition, initiated by 333GALLERY, is an opportunity for the artist to begin a new cycle, this time centered around the project “IRIDIAN, the Silent Realm.” A series of figurines, a graphic novel, and a novel will be released soon.

“사일런트 렐름(Silent Realm) 은 땅도 왕도 없는 왕국이지만, 어딘가에서 살아남은 사람들로 구성된 민족이다. 그들이 바로 사일런트 렐름이며, 그들의 언어로 이 왕국은 이리디안(IRIDIAN) 이라 불린다.”
이번 전시는 333갤러리의 기획으로 진행되며, 작가에게 “IRIDIAN, the Silent Realm” 프로젝트를 시작으로, 새로운 창작 사이클의 출발점이 된다. 앞으로 피규어 시리즈, 그래픽 노블, 소설 등의 작업이 이어질 예정이다.

Waterfalls drowned in rock, forests suspended in mist, lakes frozen in winter stillness: so many motifs that describe not a place, but an emotion. They are windows onto the intimate. Light glides over frozen surfaces, brushes against snow-capped peaks, and trembles at the edge of a void. These landscapes are made of silence, expectation, and resonance.

암석에서 떨어지는 물줄기, 안개에 잠긴 숲, 얼음 위에 내려앉은 빛, 고요하게 멈춘 호수. 이 모든 것은 장소가 아닌 감정이다. 그녀의 풍경은 외부를 재현하는 것이 아니라, 그리움과 기억을 담은 내면의 투사이다. 이는 단순한 풍경화가 아닌, ‘느껴지는 이미지’이다.

SILENT REALM is a work about heritage, memories, exile, and the need for roots and permanence, in a time that values ​​uprooting, erasure of cultural differences and languages, Standardization of images, modes of expression, networks. SILENT REALM, is located at the crossroads between Western and Asian wisdom, between the wisdom of the secular European societies of Christ and the wisdom of the teachings of the Buddha who are two twin and complementary figures.

SILENT REALM 은 유산과 기억, 망명과 뿌리, 그리고 영속에 대한 이야기이다. 이는 뿌리 뽑힘을 미덕으로 삼고, 문화적 차이와 언어의 소거, 이미지와 표현 방식, 네트워크의 표준화를 강조하는 이 시대에 던지는 반성의 메시지다. 이 작품은 서구의 지혜와 동양의 지혜, 즉 세속화된 기독교 사회의 유럽적 전통과 불교의 가르침이라는 두 쌍둥이이자 상보적인 사유의 교차점에 위치한다.
