Lovely South German 17th century marquetry box with hidden compartments and drawer from a private collector.
Made out of the wildest combination of veneers and other materials: snakewood, plum, walnut, ebony, fir, tin and ivory.
Some regluing done on pilaster and loose veneers finished with a little beeswax.

Simple and timeless chair design by Gustav Afolf Schneck. Schneck was an architectt, furniture designer and teacher at the Bauhaus school in Weimar This chair features in his book Der Stuhl from 1934 and described as interlocking chair (zusammengesteckte stuhl)..

Produced and dated 1936 by Fr. Schäfer. Tübingen.
Made completely out of beech, legs and spindles wedged and seating boards doweled and glued with animal glue.

Setting up some recently restored pieces in with the always sharp eyes and hands of .
During a period of 3 months we treated about 20 furniture pieces for this museum house. Pieter Teylers former residence adjoins the Teylers museum and is open for public since December last year. It hosts an interesting furniture collection from early 18 to mid 19th century pieces.
The first photograph is an image of a period room in a modern miniature version of the house which is also on view there. Maybe you recognise the coin collectors cabinet from one of my earlier posts.
Somehow the wallpaper in the background of the burr walnut cabinet shows some striking similarities with the veneered doors!

Doors, doors,doors!
Castelo Branco mid east Portugal December 2021.
Every time I visit Castelo Branco for family matters I'm impressed with the beauty and diversity of the towns wooden front doors. The pictures only show a handful and most of them in reasonable or recently repainted condition.
Some of them are in an appalling (also beautiful!) state but every year I'm happy to see they are still there. But for how much longer?
There must have been a well developed craftforce that was capable of making these fantastic doors. Now it seems the times are not as prosperous and the care for these objects and knowledge about this craft is in heavy decline.
A lot of doors have been fixed up with steel plates to postpone proper repairs or prevent a complete renewal of the door probably for financial reasons.
I hope these doors will find the attention they need and deserve and willl stay part of this town's cultural heritage.

Two Colonial chairs by Ole Wanscher. Executed in sapeli, stained and spray finished in the 1950's by P. Jeppesens.
These chairs come fitted with two black leather cushions not included in these pictures.

Four wall mounted cabinets. Provinciehuis Arnhem 1950-1955. Architect J.J.M.Vegter in collaboration with H. Brouwer and T.T. Deurvorst.

This was one of those projects where the objects 'grew' on me while working on them. At first a bit uncertain about these unusual pieces but eventually became very appreciative of them. The combination of materials is very rich as is in most of the interior of the Provinciehuis. Veneered blockboard in amazing figured walnut and coromandel. Doors framed in nickel plated brass profiles. White rexine on some of the doors and monochrome painted exterior on one cabinet.
