It’s been a minute hasn’t it .. after some years with standstill due to other projects we are finally back to the Ju 88 and work has started assembling the Juno 211 B1 from the Ju 88 A1 . If everything goes as planned we hope to get this back up running but time will tell . Work will also resume on the fuselage this winter .

Things that take time but hardly show ! Changing corroded anchor bolts ( note little box on work table in first picture, just a tiny portion of anchor bolts that need to be riveted back on , drilling out and replacing with originals from other land wreck parts from various crash sites that has been refurbished and restored ( those are not corroded like the ones that has been under water , approximately 8 of 10 need to be drilled out and new old stock riveted back on so we can mount fairings and stuff , fixing small things like the schleppantenna ( trailing antenna ) window ( hole for antenna will come later ) .. that window with all new original refurbished anchor bolts from other wreck parts took 8 hrs .. then fixing hatches and other small brackets and stuff, some to far gone and others mint ready to use , and skid typical things like “ Had one perfect little bracket/ hatch that goes in the wing faring BUT that’s from a A4 so it has a much thicker part and sharper angle so didn’t fit so lock has to be drilled out from that part and riveted on to the part that fit , out of 3 we ended up with one perfect ( needed just one so that’s good ) but it’s the little things that takes time and don’t show much

We had one original cartridge collector ( not in the best shape but it’s original ) for the Mg 15 in our He 111 and metal parts from another that was totally ruined ! Thanks to some good friends who restored it we now have one restored for the rear gun and the original will go back in to the front gun ! The Ju 88 has rubber cartridge collectors so these are for the Heinkel only

New curtains for the 88 is being made . Green on one side and white on the other . These were easy to turn so during summer you had green camouflage and white in the winter ! It has taken some time to find the right fabric and right color but we’re now dead on target there ! Will be looking great when done

A nice donation to the project on Tuesday was this early type signal flare gun that was used in the Ju 88. It fitted perfect in its bracket up front in the nose and is a nice addition to the 88’s interior and details

A few pictures for the model builders and paint police out there . This Ju 88 was never finished painted before it was sent into action . It has a light grayish paint on the underside and partly painted hellblau here and there but not much . One can clearly see where they used a brush on the edges and airbrush on the center ( one can also see where the painter “ dried “ of his brush on one of the doors for the rear tire . Note also parts where blue has been added but not completed . The factory code of this aircraft was CO+FY and was given the unit code U4+TK . But as mentioned the underside was never finish painted so when we salvaged it it read under the wings UO+TK so it was obvious it was more urgent to get the plane into action than caring about paint details ( also note the demarcation line on the tail wheel door . Looks like it was done by a “ drunk “ ! And this was in January 1940 folks so don’t believe all the talk about the aircrafts HAD to have this and that paint . It was war and planes was needed in the field . Not in the paint shop
