EVSU Ormoc Extension Services Office Promotes Programs Through Radio Guesting

The Extension Services Office of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Ormoc Campus conducted a radio guesting at DYRG Blue Radio Station to promote the university’s ongoing and upcoming extension activities in Barangay Cabaon-an, Ormoc City.

The guesting aimed to strengthen community awareness and encourage public participation in the various outreach and development programs spearheaded by EVSU Ormoc. These extension initiatives focus on empowering local residents through education, skills training, environmental awareness, livelihood support, and community engagement.

During the program, Extension Office Head Georgina Orbeta shared the office’s goals and current initiatives geared toward community development. Meanwhile, Prof. Arneill Pepito, Proponent of the Hydroponics Project, discussed details of the upcoming activity scheduled on Friday.

Joining the Hydroponics team is the SCAPISAP Project, led by Prof. Rosita Lariosa, which focuses on food packaging and labeling. Both projects underscore the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and local communities in addressing community needs and promoting sustainable growth.

According to the Extension Services Office, the radio guesting also served as an avenue to encourage residents of Barangay Cabaon-an and nearby communities to actively participate in EVSU Ormoc’s extension projects and future activities.

EVSU Ormoc Joins PAEPI 2026 in Coron, Palawan

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), including its Ormoc Campus, actively participated in the 2026 International Extension Conference of the Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementors, Inc. (PAEPI), held from April 14–17, 2026 in Coron, Palawan.

Highlighting EVSU Ormoc’s contribution, Prof. Georgina Orbeta presented the paper titled “Improving Home-Teaching Experience through Parents’ Mentoring,” showcasing innovative approaches to strengthening home-based learning through parental engagement. The study was featured under the Education category as a non-competing entry.

EVSU also brought pride to the institution with two major awards from its campuses. Prof. Amelita Ariza of Carigara Campus secured 2nd Best Paper in the Social, Cultural, and Behavioral Sciences category through its HOPE Extension Program, while Dr. Bernard Niño Membrebe of the EVSU Main Campus (EVFIC) earned 3rd Best Paper in the Entrepreneurship and Circular Economy category for the PROCESS Extension Project.

The university’s strong showing in the conference underscores its commitment to impactful extension programs and community development initiatives on both national and international platforms.

EVSU Ormoc Presents Extension Paper at PAEPI 2026 Conference in Coron, Palawan

Educators and extension practitioners from across the country and abroad gathered in PAEPI International Extension Conference 2026 held from April 14 to 17, 2026, in Coron, Palawan. The event, organized by the Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementors, highlighted innovations and best practices in community extension under the theme of advancing next-generation extension initiatives.

Among the presenters was Georgina Orbeta, who shared her research titled “Improving Home Teaching Experience through Parents Mentoring.” Her study focused on strengthening home-based teaching strategies by integrating structured mentoring within extension programs, aiming to enhance both educator effectiveness and learner engagement in community settings.
Orbeta emphasized the role of mentoring in bridging gaps between theory and practice, particularly in home teaching environments that require adaptive and personalized approaches. Her presentation contributed to ongoing discussions on how extension services can better support educators and learners amid evolving educational landscapes.

Hydroponics Farming Extension Activity Conducted in Barangay Danao, Ormoc City

Barangay Danao, Ormoc City – On March 13, 2026, an extension activity entitled Hydroponics Farming was successfully conducted in Barangay Danao, Ormoc City. The activity aimed to introduce and promote sustainable and modern farming techniques to the local community.

The activity was organized by the faculty and students of the Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Electronics Technology of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU). The participants were from Barangay Danao who actively joined the activity and showed interest in learning the hydroponics farming method.

The project was led by Prof. Arneil Pepito, who guided the students and community participants throughout the activity. During the session, the participants were introduced to the basic concepts of hydroponics, including the materials used, the setup of the system, and the benefits of hydroponic farming in improving food production.

This extension activity served as an opportunity for EVSU students to apply their knowledge while helping the community learn innovative agricultural practices. The organizers hope that the knowledge shared during the activity will encourage residents to explore hydroponics as a sustainable and efficient way of growing crops.

EVSU Ormoc Holds Culminating Activity for MaReHTeS Extension Project in Brgy. Danao

Faculty members, administrative staff and students from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Ormoc Campus gathered in Brgy. Danao on March 13, 2026 for the culminating activity of the Managing Reading at Home and Teaching Strategies (MaReHTeS) for Parents extension project. This activity celebrates the completion of a series of community learning sessions aimed at strengthening parents’ roles in their children’s reading development.

The event marked the successful conclusion of the MaReHTeS project, which was led by Ms. Georgina Orbeta, an initiative designed to equip parents with practical strategies for managing reading activities at home and supporting their children's literacy development. Over the course of the program, participating parents engaged in guided discussions, demonstrations, and workshops focused on effective reading techniques, home learning routines, and strategies for motivating young readers.

The culminating activity brought together representatives from Eastern Visayas State University Ormoc—including faculty members, administrators, BEED students, and staff—who actively participated in the project’s implementation and community engagement efforts. Their presence highlighted the university’s continuing commitment to strengthening partnerships with local communities through outreach and extension services.

Parents from Brgy. Danao shared their experiences and insights gained from the sessions, expressing appreciation for the practical tools and techniques introduced during the training. Many participants noted that the program helped them better understand how to guide their children in reading, create supportive learning environments at home, and develop consistent reading habits.

The speakers, Ms. Orbeta and two third year BEED students Mr. Melperd Cabahug and Ms. Jessica Castil, emphasized that parental involvement plays a critical role in improving literacy among children. Through the MaReHTeS project, organizers aimed to empower parents to become active partners in their children’s education by providing them with accessible and effective teaching strategies.

The activity also featured recognition of participating parents, interactive learning demonstrations, and the distribution of reading materials intended to support continued literacy activities at home. It also involved a workshop on how to conduct reading sessions at home.

This initiative reflects the ongoing mission of Eastern Visayas State University to extend educational support beyond the classroom and into the community. By working closely with families and local stakeholders in Brgy. Danao, the university hopes to foster sustainable literacy practices that will benefit children and their families in the long term.

PIT Officials Visit EVSU-Ormoc

The Vice President and Director of Research and Extension of Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) visited EVSU Ormoc on January 23, 2025 to discuss matters related to research and extension marking a significant step toward strengthening academic and institutional collaboration between the two institutions.

The meeting focused on exploring potential areas of partnership, particularly in research, extension services, internationalization initiatives, and external linkages. Both parties shared best practices and discussed opportunities for joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative extension programs, and future international engagements.

The PIT delegation emphasized the importance of building strong inter-institutional relationships to enhance research productivity and community-based extension programs. Meanwhile, the EVSU Ormoc representatives: led by Dr. Maricel Gomez, Campus Director of EVSU Ormoc, Dr. Beatrice Mabitad, Head of Research office, Georgina Orbeta, Head of Extension office and Dr. Jereco Jims Agapito, Extension Coordinator, highlighted their commitment to expanding areas of improvement on tangible outputs in their extension projects through strategic partnerships with other higher education institutions.

The dialogue underscored a shared vision of advancing academic excellence, innovation, and community development in the region. Both institutions expressed optimism that the meeting would pave the way for formal agreements and collaborative activities in the near future.

It was also timely that the Vice President, Dr. Analyn Españo and Director Faustito Aure for Internationalization and External Affairs of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) held a forum at the campus; hence, the two VPs and officials of the two universities had more meaningful conversations over lunch.

This engagement reflects the continuing efforts of PIT and EVSU Ormoc to foster cooperation and contribute meaningfully to regional and global academic development.

Parents Empowered Through MaReHTeS Third Activity in Brgy. Danao

In an ongoing effort to strengthen parental involvement in young children's education, the MaReHTeS (Managing Reading at Home and Teaching Strategies) Extension Project successfully held its first Activity of its Parents' Seminar Workshop Series on July 24, 2025, at the Brgy Hall of Danao, Ormoc. The event brought together 40 local parents for a day of learning, open forum, workshop and empowerment centered on education and holistic child development.

Georgina Orbeta led the discussion on the review of the MTB-MLE Principles, discussed Language Approaches and Teaching Strategies that parents can use in teaching their children at home. Ms. Krystine Jugar, A BEED incoming 4th year student shared their thesis on Jolly Phonics approach and how they used it in their practice teaching sessions. In the afternoon, Prof. Cheryl Belarmino shared insights on effective teaching at home through a discussion of the theories of learning. Also, Mrs. Liezel Impas, a teacher at Lake Danao Integrated School spoke about the importance of parents' roles in educating their children. Lastly, Prof. Reymon Cielo, an expert on the Arts, led the workshop on making Instructional Materials.

The seminar was also facilitated and organized by the BOOKID Program leader, Dr. Glenda Barquin, Prof. Charo Angelio, Prof. Maybelle Ricote, Mr. Ariel Morilla and BEED students: Ms. Little Legend Malinao and Ms. Mary Julianne Corot.

“This project is very helpful for our parents,” shared the Brgy. Chairman.

Education does not happen only in the classroom. Through MaReHTeS, we are building stronger bridges between schools, homes, and communities.

Eastern Visayas State University attends the Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementors Inc (PAEPI) International Extension Congress 2025 held at Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Philippines

Attendees of this international Extension Congress are the Extension Head of Tanauan Campus, Dr. Jeff Negros with the Extension coordinator, Prof. Ralf Jerico Albides; Extension Head of Carigara Campus, Prof. Amelita Arpon, and Extension Head of Ormoc Campus, Ms. Georgina Orbeta.

The conference was held on June 10-13, 2025 with over 400 participants from the Philippines and speakers from abroad.

Ceremonial Turnover of Research Funds and Pre-implementation Orientation - May 7th, 2025

EVSU Ormoc bags the victory of being able to receive two (2) Research Grants from Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC). According to Mr. Leonido Olobia, the Chair of the Research Committee, it is the first time for them to grant 2 researches from the same institution for funding.

The momentous ceremony was graced by the officials/representatives of EVHRDC and DOST 8, selected officials of the university headed by the VP for Research and Development and Extension Services and Innovation Dr. Analyn C
